The Payroll Manager is a professional who leads all aspects of and advises payroll procedures for Saltchuk Aviation and its operating companies. They are responsible for compliance with relevant laws and tax obligations, supervising the payroll team, and maintaining accurate payroll records.
COMPENSATIONThis position has a salary range of $110,300 to $165,445 per year in Seattle, Washington.
This position will have the ability to work a hybrid schedule from either our Seattle (preferable) or Anchorage offices.

RESPONSIBILITIES- Ensure employees are paid timely and accurately by:
- Supervising payroll staff in the processing of bi-weekly and semi-monthly payrolls
- Maintaining payroll and timekeeping system master files
- Auditing to determine that payrolls, union contracts, and benefits are being processed correctly.
- Ensuring compliance with applicable local, state, and federal wage and hour laws
- Maintaining accurate PTO and personal time balances
- Supports the Accounting function and general management of the Company by:
- Reviewing all payroll and outside provider filings for accuracy. This includes:
- Payroll tax deposits
- Payroll tax return filings
- W-2s
- DOL filings
- Any other payroll-related filings
- Prepares payroll journal entries and various month-end close tasks.
- Providing reports to HR and other department managers as requested.
- Cross-training payroll staff to ensure coverage.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school graduate, or equivalent, (bachelor’s degree preferred).
- Payroll Certification (CPP) is preferred.
- At least 5 years of work experience in managing multi-state payroll with supervisory responsibilities.
- Experience with sophisticated union contracts preferred.
- Experience using Microsoft Office.
- Solid understanding of Payroll GAAP
- Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, and the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical users.
- Ability to perform duties under limited supervision.
- Independent problem-solving ability is critical.
- Analyze and troubleshoot common payroll problems and learn new systems on the job.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to focus and concentrate on details under pressure.
- Demonstrated capability to follow through on assigned tasks and meet timelines.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical publications and periodicals.
- Ability to write procedures and technical documentation.
- Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to user requests in a concise manner.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk or hear, and to use hands and fingers for computer input.
- This position has a high level of interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to write grammatically correct business correspondence, procedures, and routine reports.
- Effective public speaking and ability to present to employee groups, community groups, management, etc.
- Ability to communicate effectively and respond verbally and in writing to candidates, employees, management, peers, and outside agencies.
- Most work is performed in an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation.
