Description
GENERAL INTRODUCTION:
The Archbishop, visible principle of unity in his archdiocese, is called to build up the particular Church unceasingly in the communion of all its members, and to ensure that their diverse gifts and ministries, in union with the universal Church, serve to build up all the faithful and to spread the Gospel. (Apostolorum Successores 8). He must take care that all the affairs which belong to the administration of the whole archdiocese are duly coordinated and are ordered to attain more suitably the good of the portion of the people of God entrusted to him." (Apostolorum Successores 177).
Each position employed in the Chancery helps to extend the ministry of the Archbishop in particular ways as outlined in the position description.
NOTE:
This is an appointed position by the Ordinary of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle and subject to Archdiocesan Policy pertaining to appointed positions. The supervisor of this position reserves the right to make necessary modifications to this position to reflect current and appropriate responsibilities.
GENERAL SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL PURPOSE:
Healing Ministry Coordinator, this person will manage and maintain various programs and events designed to acknowledge survivors, give them a voice, and assist them in their healing journey. Assists Victim Assistance/Safe Environment Coordinator as needed in responding to victims/survivors who come forward to report sexual abuse, misconduct, and/or harassment by Church personnel in the Archdiocese of Seattle, as needed.
ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES:
Victim Assistance Coordinator
- Partner with the COO using judgement to recommend and determine if a complaint warrants further investigation, including determining a course of action, and documenting all steps taken.
- Assist COO and Victim Assistance/Safe Environment Coordinator in responding to helpline calls.
Through the use of counseling techniques extend compassionate support and outreach to victims of sexual abuse and misconduct by Church personnel of the Archdiocese of Seattle.
3. Collaborate with the Safe Environment Coordinator, COO, and Communications team on the annual campaigns to promote the Catholic Bishops Abuse Reporting (CBAR) hotline and to maintain the Protect and Heal archdiocesan website with current information, events and healing opportunities designed for survivors - both locally and nationally.
Healing Ministry Coordinator
- Staff, convene, and lead the work of the Pathway to Healing Committee to build and maintain an Archdiocesan-wide program to respond to the spiritual and healing needs of survivors.
- Assure that survivors are invited to participate both on the Healing Ministry Committee and other ministry opportunities.
- Responsible for creating, assuring delivery of, and maintaining a trauma-informed ministry training program for clergy, seminarians, and parish staff.
- Provide support and resources to parishes affected by abuse.
- Represent the Archdiocese of Seattle by participating in nationally led efforts and projects to address and respond to the ongoing needs of survivors.
- Create content and lead/facilitate retreats, workshops, and meetings.
- Other duties and responsibilities TBD as this ministry evolves.
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Primary:
- Willingness and ability to support the mission of the Church by extending the ministry of the archbishop.
- Ability and desire to use God-given gifts and talents in service of the local Church in support of victim/survivors of abuse, misconduct, and harassment.
- Active member of a parish/faith community in good standing with the Church.
Education:
- Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor Science or equivalent experience
- Counseling certification a plus
Experience:
- 5+ years of successful experience working with individuals who are or have been in stressful circumstances or have suffered trauma.
- Experience in creating and maintaining detailed records.
- Demonstrated ability in holding and maintaining confidential information.
- Experience in mediation and conflict resolution.
- Ability to work independently and have the judgment to seek assistance and support when necessary.
- Experience in working with a variety of people including in multicultural settings.
- Ability to collaborate with a variety of staff as well as external agencies and vendors.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to write reports and communicate with a variety of individuals from different backgrounds.
Other Elements:
- Ability to represent the Archbishop and the Church in assisting victims of sexual abuse to heal.
- An understanding of basic elements of therapy and counseling.
- Must have access to a vehicle, possess a valid Washington driver's license, and the ability to travel throughout the Archdiocese of Seattle.
Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
