About Western Landowners Alliance (WLA): Founded in 2012 by landowners and managers, the organization aims to increase the wellbeing of working lands in the American West and the living communities, including human and wildlife, that depend on them.
Position Overview: WLA's Working Wild Challenge (WWC) program is designed to support landowners in achieving positive outcomes for both working lands and wildlife. The Eastern Oregon Resources Coordinator is responsible for the implementation and coordination of WWC initiatives, including reducing conflicts between wildlife and livestock, and improving economic and regulatory support for wildlife stewardship on working lands in Oregon.

Amount of Time & Status: 40 hours a week, exempt, Monday-Friday

Location: This position is remote, but individuals must be located in proximity to eastern Oregon. Periodic travel will be required.

Reports to: Working Wild Challenge Program Director

Compensation: $60,000-$75,000. Salary is commensurate with experience. Duties/Responsibilities Include:

  • Coordinate implementation of WWC projects and related grants in eastern Oregon
  • In collaboration with the WWC program director, develop strategies and objectives to meet the goals of the WWC program as they relate to wildlife-livestock conflict reduction in eastern Oregon
  • Recruit and facilitate an Oregon-based landowner advisory group focused on conflict reduction between livestock and wildlife (emphasis on wolves)
  • Identify and establish collaborative relationships with government agencies (i.e. US Fish & Wildlife Services, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, USDA APHIS Wildlife Services), producer groups, and other community-based organizations related to conflict reduction in Oregon
  • Participate in WLA's West-wide Conflict Reduction Consortium and any associated work specific to Oregon
  • Connect landowners with regional, state and federal technical and financial resources
  • Support communications, outreach and peer to peer learning to WLA members, landowners and land managers. Facilitate workshops, field tours, and online events
  • Support and advise on public policies and economics related to livestock-wildlife interactions on working lands in Oregon
  • Represent WLA at the state legislature, governor's office, state agencies, and other key constituencies in Oregon
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience required
  • Working knowledge of wildlife management and conservation practices and policies
  • Working knowledge of land and natural resource issues in the West including agriculture, ranching, conservation, and policies related to these issues
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain positive working relationships
  • Experience working with landowners
  • Experience and demonstrated success in working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders toward a common goal
  • Experience facilitating meetings and working with diverse constituencies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; detail oriented, strong independent work ethic; and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
  • Willingness and ability to maintain confidential information and work with diverse populations
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite

Working Environment/Physical Activities: Work environment is an office and field setting. Physical activities include sitting at a desk and working on a keyboard and computer several hours a day; conducting business over the telephone and via email; standing for long periods of time; periodic travel and traveling long distances by vehicle (including traveling on unpaved roads). This position may also require moving materials up to 25 pounds.This position requires the ability to facilitate meetings and interface professionally with the public.
