About Marketing & Business Development (MBD)
MBD is a dynamic global team which includes Business Development Specialists, research analysts, brand, marketing and communications experts. By working collaboratively, our team shapes the firm's client strategy, completes analysis of complex business issues, targets opportunities, develops compelling proposals and creates content and marketing campaigns that lead our digital presence. Together, we define the client experience and shape the perception of Freshfields around the globe.
Role summary
This is a varied role requiring excellent teamworking and communication skills as well as the ability to build strong, trusted relationships with senior internal stakeholders and client contacts, and to work collaboratively with brand, marketing, communications, research and Business Development Specialists across our global firm.
We are seeking a Business Development Specialist to help our strategic Business Development efforts for our TMT (Technology, Media and Telecoms) sector. The successful candidate will work closely with our leading TMT partners to identify client issues, map out market trends and create an engaging program of client development activities to drive revenue from this sector, on a global basis.
TMT is a key sector within Freshfields, lying at the very heart of our growth plans for the whole organization. This growth was underpinned by the addition in 2020 of our Silicon Valley office. We have close relationships with several of the world's leading clients in these sectors, ranging from large Tech multinationals based on the US's West Coast to exciting new disrupters evolving into industry household names.
This role will report into the Business Development Manager for the sector, and will work closely with the other members of the TMT BD team, as well as the TMT SGLs (Sector Group Leaders).
With this context, the role holder will be responsible for working collaboratively as part of the Global Business Development team for the TMT sector to:

  • Understand the specific challenges and opportunities for the sector, support the Manager and the broader team to develop and execute a focused marketing and Business Development strategy - the aims being to strengthen relationships with key internal stakeholders, to target new work and to build the global reputation of the firm
  • Support the creation of compelling credentials, capability statements, proposals, and pitches to respond to fast turn-around bids, strategic panels, or other opportunities to win work for the sector
  • Leverage marketing technology and tools to spot opportunities to develop existing clients and services, track key relationships, and measure the success of initiatives
  • Help to develop sector content, campaigns to increase engagement with key clients and enhance the personal brands of leading attorneys and the firm's global reputation
  • Support on events and relevant initiatives to enhance the profile of our sector's offer and strengthen our relationships with key stakeholders
  • Support on the sector's directories submissions
  • Help manage the internal structure of the sector, including but not limited to the SharePoint site, capability statements, credentials, and teams' folders
  • Support on development of the sector's data including liaising with the CRM team and Executive Assistants to improve and develop processes to increase data sharing
  • Build trusted relationships with MBD colleagues to achieve a 'one team' global mindset
  • Be part of an agile and responsive bespoke service model based on mutual respect and appreciation of skillsets across the team
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in the firm's approach to Business Development, including proactive sharing of knowledge and data to centralized tools

Key requirements (skills/experience)
  • Educated to college degree level; with 2-4 years of working in a professional business environment
  • Strong communication skills, with attention to detail in writing
  • Ability to work independently on own initiative, but also with strong teamworking skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize actions and meet strict, often quickly evolving deadlines
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Suite software
  • Natural curiosity and propensity to learn; enthusiasm to grow into a rounded Business Development practitioner
  • Existing knowledge of the Tech sector is not a pre-requisite, but an interest in it is important

Freshfields is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This compensation range is specific to the States of New York and California and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $100,000 to $125,000.
