Business Development Specialist Job Description

Title:Business Development Specialist (non-exempt)

Reports to: Senior Business Development Manager

We are looking for a resourceful and sharp Business Development Specialist with strong writing skills to join our marketing and Business Development team. Our team supports multiple practice areas, working closely with advertising, corporate & transactions, data privacy, labor & employment, real estate and litigation practice groups. Having to support multiple practice areas means strong organizational and project management skills and the ability to work effectively with various stakeholders will be highly valued.

This position involves “face time” opportunities with attorneys and managers of the firm, so the successful candidate will have great interpersonal skills.

Position Description

Reports to the Senior Business Development Manager and Chief Marketing Officer.

Along with strong project management skills, the Business Development Specialist will leverage their research and writing skills to support the firm in executing Business Development and marketing initiatives.

Responsibilities

Business Development Support

  • Preparing pitch materials for prospective client meetings and RFP responses, including:
  • Drafting tailored pitches or RFP responses;
  • Coordinating with attorneys and other administrative departments;
  • Editing, assembling, proofing and distributing final proposals;
  • Researching prospective clients
  • Researching and summarizing information for use in new business pitches. Scope of research includes:
  • Firm capabilities, industry specializations, and emerging issues for clients/prospects.
  • Maintaining pitch tracking system and practice data and pitch materials by:
  • Updating relevant databases (Deals & Cases Knowledge Management and Proposal Pilot).
  • Contributing to the development of strategy and implementation of business plans
  • Preparing opportunity tracking, client activity tracking and competitor tracking report.
  • Analyzing and utilizing deals data from Deal & Cases Knowledge Management
  • Monitor and report on market trends and issues in an effort to keep partners updated on client, target, and competitor activities.
  • Identify and support cross-practice Business Development initiatives as needed
  • Attending practice group meetings and preparation of minutes / agendas in connection with such meetings.

Brand Awareness/Thought Leadership

  • Project managing the directory submissions process, including drafting and collaborating with attorneys to finalize submissions
  • Supporting attorneys post-event, including targeting of attendees and follow ups
  • Any additional responsibilities as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, with at least 3 years’ experience in a marketing or Business Development role in a law firm or similar professional services environment a strong plus
  • Excellent analytical and research skills and the ability to process information from a wide variety of sources.
  • Extraordinary attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Strong computer skills with various Microsoft programs (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent relationship management skills and ability to work on a team.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Proficiency in experience databases such as ContentPilot Deals & Cases and Proposal Pilot
  • Proficiency in email marketing platforms such as iContact or Constant Contact
  • Proficiency in CRM systems such as ContactEase
