Description
Job Summary
We are looking for a reliable and precise professional to help us properly maintain our payable information. The Accounts Payable and Accounting Specialist will maintain current accounts and assist in invoicing functions as well as assisting in preparing monthly financial statements. This candidate will interact with various individuals within the business office and will report directly to the Controller of the organization. This position is full time.
Responsibilities
  • Manage the Accounts Payable process including; timely accounting review and approval of payments sent to vendors, preparation of checks for signature(s), correct coding of employee entered expenses, proper process for signature policy, wires and electronic payments entry of all payables into the accounting system.
  • Manage lost checks and checks that need to be voided, if necessary requesting a Stop Check function in the banking system.
  • Ensure accurate vendor records are maintained including collection of W-9s and potential contracts or agreements are kept up to date and on file. Maintaining the integrity of the system by watching for possible duplicate vendors and cleaning up records when necessary.
  • Manage annual Form-1099 and 1096 processing including ordering forms and envelopes, distributing appropriate forms to contractors, vendors and IRS.
  • Manage and maintain credit card activity including: analysis of employee spending, maintenance of employee credit limits; process change requests, reconcile monthly receipts with employee documentation; uploading monthly journal entry of activity to the general ledger.
  • Support audits with external auditor by providing Accounts Payable data and pulling selected invoices for review.
  • Ensure processes listed above are compliant with organizational policies, enforce policies pertaining to above and train employees on accounting/procurement policies.
  • Assist in preparation of monthly financial statements: record applicable journal entries and assist in interfacing revenue streams.
  • Support COO with administrative tasks including calendar, scheduling communication, room reservations/booking, and coordination with the Executive Assistant.
  • Other Duties as assigned, based on the needs of the organization.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
  • Associates Degree in Accounting or related field.

  • Minimum 2 years accounting payable process, or full-cycle AP experience
  • Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook
  • Excellent data entry skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, customer service and telephone skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of, and respect, for the rules and regulations of the Jewish Community Centers of Denver, including the Employee Handbook and ability to abide by them.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 2-3 years of Accounts Payable experience

Physical/Mental Requirements (ADA Compliance)
  • Mental requirements include, but are not limited to, the ability to concentrate, take initiative, cope with stress, maintain the highest degree of confidentiality, adapt to and stay alert in a business environment
  • Ability to remain in the sitting position for prolonged hours
  • In order to perform the essential duties of the job, the employee must be able to speak, hear, see and walk up to 1 mile each day
  • Repeated standing and occasional sitting on the floor during the day
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Working conditions may include being in an open (shared) cubical or workspace area

Physical/Mental Requirements (ADA Compliance)
Full time employees are benefits-eligible. The JCC contributes a portion of medical, dental and vision plan premiums and pays for Basic Life Insurance & AD&D, Short-Term Disability and Long-Term Disability for Full-Time employees. There are additional voluntary benefit plans available. The JCC has a 401(K) Plan available for elective deferral contributions for employees over 21 years of age, with no waiting period. Paid Time Off is a day-one benefit, accrued based on years of service and in compliance with the Colorado Healthy Families & Workplaces Act.
