Position Overview
We are looking for a motivated and experienced Paralegal or Legal Assistant to join our team of attorneys. Mellman & Mellman, LLP is a family-owned, boutique firm located in downtown San Diego. Our practice focuses on areas of landlord-tenant and family law. Due to the rapid growth of our firm, there is considerable scope for career progression.

The candidate is anticipated to work primarily on our landlord tenant matters. As such, the ideal candidate will be able to manage dynamic cases that are on abbreviated deadlines. Our office works with both landlord and tenant clients, so the candidate must be able to examine unlawful detainer cases from both sides of the spectrum. While these cases will be the primary focus, the candidate may be called upon to assist in other practice areas as needed. The ability to effectively manage an independent caseload is paramount.
Responsibilities
· Perform legal research and fact gathering to support attorneys throughout all stages of litigation using online databases such as LexisNexis, Westlaw, and other sources
· Prepare and file legal documents such as pleadings, motions, and memoranda
· Assist with deposition, hearing, and trial preparation
· Locate and interview potential witnesses
· Liaise with clients to provide regular updates and gather information as needed
· Assist with discovery
· Screen potential clients and conduct conflict checks
Qualifications
· At least one year of paralegal of legal assist experience (preferably in Landlord/Tenant or Litigation fields)
· Bachelor’s Degree and/or Paralegal Certificate required
· High level of proficiency in MS Office/Office 365
· Experience with legal research engines such as Westlaw and LexisNexis
· Familiarity with e-filing services
· Knowledge of state court rules and procedures
· High aptitude for multi-tasking and prioritizing work tasks to meet deadlines
· Superior written and oral communication skills
· Willingness to work in a team spirited environment

Pay: $50,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
