The person in this position is the first point of contact with anyone calling or coming into the division office and at Durham when serving there for back up coverage, and is responsible for greeting, assisting, directing and providing information and materials to visitors and callers. Provide superior customer service with tact, diplomacy, confidentiality and a welcoming, helpful presence. Facilitate the timely and successful execution of various daily activities and needs. Assist with outreach and events showcasing our programs and facilitating recruitment and public relations. Therefore, the primary purpose of this position is to help serve students, faculty, staff, College and visitors in various ways.
The Health and Human Services Division Office serves over 3,500 students and around 150 full-time and part-time faculty annually.
Supervisory Responsibility: None, however, this position does provide direction to student workers in completion of specific tasks related to the division.
Minimum Requirements
- Knowledge of general office practice ( basic operational tasks, including typing, answering phones, sorting mail, responding to student and staff needs)
- Two years of clerical experience in a high volume, fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with computer software (Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Zoom, Email etc.).
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to respond to students, faculty and staff with diplomacy, tact and courtesy.
- Demonstrated work history of providing high-quality, strong customer-oriented services, including “can-do”, problem-solving orientation; strong listening skills; ability to understand and meet customers’ needs.
Additional Desirable Qualifications Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods. Requires the ability to move about inside the office and occasionally traverse across campus.
- Must be able to move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with faculty, staff and the public.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.
Work Schedule
Full time; 40 hours/week (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.). Possible flexing of schedule for special events or division needs.
