- Job Description
- The Medical Receptionist is a patient's first point of contact at the hospital. Must be able to handle the duties of both a receptionist and medical secretary, signing in people and dealing with their personal information. Medical Receptionist particularly need the skills to collect and organize information to keep the flow of patients running smoothly. The office hours are Monday and Thursday 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, Wednesday and Friday 8:30 am to 5pm, the office is closed on Tuesday. There is a weekend shift, every sixth Saturday, 7 am - 1 pm.
Responsibilities
- Answer incoming phone calls, assisting patients with scheduling needs or transferring to the appropriate department/person requested.
- Unlock office and prepare for patients.
- Scan all records for patients (radiology reports, labs, consultations reports, office visit information, demographics).
- Greet patients; gather and update all necessary information upon arrival
- Update schedules in the Medical Manager Appointment Scheduler or scheduling book.
- Take concise, accurate messages for nursing staff and physicians.
- Schedule appointments according to individual providers' schedules and the type of service requested.
- Make reminder phone calls for upcoming appointments.
- Maintain policies and procedures; update as needed.
- Refer patients in need of payment arrangements or financial assistance to the physician billing office.
- Schedule follow-up appointments as directed and provide patients with written appointment reminder cards.
- Collect necessary payment at time of service.
- Review billing information after a patient visit. Ensure that all necessary information included.
- Maintain schedules for consulting physicians, notifying their home office as per their individual preference.
- Complete lab requisitions and outpatient services requisitions and direct patients to the outpatient admitting office.
- Complete end of day procedures.
- Assist with the ordering and restocking of office supplies as needed.
- Perform other related work as requested or required.
- Requirements
- High school diploma or the equivalent is required.
- Coding and medical terminology knowledge are strongly preferred.
- Multi-tasking in a busy setting is required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
- Previous Medical Office experience is preferred.
- Must be willing to rotate to any office if needed.
- CPR certification is preferred.
