Job Position: HR Generalist
Purpose: Under the Direction of the Director of People & Culture, The Human Resources (HR) Generalist will provide a broad scope of services to support Knobelsdorff’s employees and programs. The HR Generalist will provide consultation, guidance, and support to a division manager and employees on a broad range of employment relations activities including but not limited to workplace investigations, ADA accommodation requests, employment laws (state, county, municipality, and immigration), policy interpretation and implementation, performance management, coaching and counseling related to performance and employee concerns.
The role will evaluate employee relations issues and concerns and recommends appropriate resolution to management. They will also be responsible for implementing, and administering the corrective action process assuring compliance with policies and laws affecting employees, counsel employees, managers, and groups to facilitate problem resolution.
This role will oversee benefits administration for all employees under their supervision, while ensuring we deliver an excellent employee experience in the process. This role will serve as the subject matter expert and point of contact for all aspects of benefits administration, provide oversight and execution for day-to-day benefits administration, work closely with third-party vendors, and collaborate directly with the Director of People & Culture to continuously improve the benefits administration process for employees.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates daily human resource functions and serves as the primary contact for employees in answering human resource questions and assisting employees in understanding company policies and practices, and insurance and benefit plans.
- Coordinates the company's personnel-related compliance programs, including but not limited to: Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Veteran's Preference, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Pay Equity, Workers Compensation, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA)/Retiree, and others to ensure compliance.
- Assists in the preparation, review, and updating of job descriptions; coordinates with department directors to ensure job descriptions and job postings are current and accurate.
- Coordinates recruitment, interviews, open enrollment, meetings, physicals, and drug testing appointments.
- Conducts surveys, comparisons, and other related research.
- Maintains employee records including personnel, training, safety, and other confidential materials; prepares correspondence including letters, spreadsheets, notices, postings, forms, etc.
- Assists in developing and administering employee benefits and insurance plans
- Assists in developing and implementing programs for employee recognition, training, special events, and education as necessary.
- Utilizes all functionality of the human resource applicant tracking and hiring software; enters and maintains information; coordinates new employee on-boarding and orientation; prepares new employee orientation packets.
- Administers the drug and alcohol testing program and retains comprehensive records; schedules drug and alcohol tests and notifies employees of the results; ensures compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements.
- Coordinates programs including Workers Compensation, unemployment and disability insurance, employee leaves, deferred compensation, etc.
- Researches and makes recommendations for the implementation and updating of insurance and benefit mandates and legislation including ACA and health care reform initiatives, personnel policies and procedures and ensures company policies are following state and federal laws; monitors and maintains strong working knowledge of the latest changes in state and federal laws and practices.
Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources
- SHRM-CP, PHR Certification or willing to obtain within 6 months
- General knowledge of HR principles and practices, rules, regulations, trends, and developments.
- Effective communication skills, with an ability to function and succeed in a collaborative environment.
- Experience collaborating with managers on HR related matters.
- Experience providing support to employees on various HR related topics.
- Strong creative critical thinking skills with the ability to develop and recommend practical solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage situations with discretion, good judgement, and an appropriate sense of urgency.
- General understanding employment laws.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Prefer a minimum of 1 year of full-life cycle recruiting experience with emphasis on sourcing and securing passive candidates.
- Demonstrated proficiency at sourcing passive candidates through web searches and various job boards, LinkedIn, indeed, etc.
- Hands-on experience with ATS and HRIS systems
- Familiarity with social networks, professional sites, and resume databases.
- Excellent verbal, written, networking and persuasive communication skills.
- Ability to positively present our company and open roles to potential candidates.
- Excellent time-management skills with the ability to manage various open positions simultaneously
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- A knowledge of electrical, photovoltaic (solar) construction and/or automation a plus.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that represents a history of safe and competent driving.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to sit, stand, kneel, stoop, walk, and sit for long periods of time.
Must be physically capable of lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs.
