Position Summary:
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) has strong leadership skills and oversight for various departments and is responsible for the effective and compliant management of the school's finances, human resources, employee benefits, logistics (e.g. student transportation, food services), IT management, property management, data management, website management, safety & security, etc.. The COO is responsible for managing those vendors who are contracted by the school to provide these aforementioned services and others and/or to directly ensure that these critical operational functions are completed to a high degree of quality. The COO is additionally responsible for coordinating, monitoring, and prioritizing the department staff and workflow requirements for the efficient daily operations, activities, and services managed and provided by the LEA. The COO assists in day to day operation of activities and services managed by the LEA and in ensuring the efficient, prompt interaction with the Board of Education, Office of the Superintendent, and direct reports. The Chief Operating Officer reports directly to the Superintendent. The Chief Operating Officer is responsible for managing the entire operations team.
This is a 12 - month position.
Position Responsibilities:
- Preparation of the operational, expenditure, and compliance portions of the applications and reports for Schoolwide Pool, Part B - SPED, E-rate, Medicaid, and Food Services among other state and federal programs.
- Provide oversight for the completion of the DESE MOSIS core data reports and other sponsor, state, and federal compliance reports.
- Work with the financial management vendor and Director of Finance to maintain the general ledger, and to ensure the accurate and timely completion of the bi-monthly payroll.
- Work with the financial management vendor to prepare for annual audits, 990 forms, ASBR reports and other state and federal compliance reports associated with the operations of Crossroads Charter Schools.
- Work with the central office team and other staff to provide oversight and to manage those vendors providing student transportation, food services, IT management, e-rate services, Medicaid services, property management services, website maintenance, telecommunications and other services that support the operations of Crossroads Charter Schools.
- Design operational and communication systems to be implemented by the LEA that will improve and enhance our customer service and customer relations.
- Work with staff members to develop and implement effective communication systems and processes for recruiting, enrolling, and onboarding new students.
- Support the HR Director with the employee hiring process by tracking applications and facilitating the appropriate background checks, new employee onboarding, orientation,
- Work with the employee benefits providers to advise the administration on employee benefits options, and to manage the effective implementation of the selected employee benefits.
- Handle and organize personnel and other confidential information
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's in Business Management, Public Administration, Non-profit Management, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years professional work experience and demonstrated success in business or nonprofit management, with relevant experience in the public education sector strongly preferred.
- Proficient in computer technology and managing technology vendors
- Ability to work as an effective team member and to foster relationships with board members, donors, staff members, parents, and community members. Ability to work with diverse groups of people.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
- Meticulous attention to detail and passion for well-run processes.
- Desire to continue professional development.
- Excellent work ethic, positive attitude, flexibility and willingness to perform tasks assigned.
