The West Town Chicago Chamber of Commerce is an established nonprofit recipient of the City of Chicago’s Neighborhood Business Development Grant and the service provider of the West Town Special Service Area providing support to the West Town Neighborhood for over 20 years. The West Town Chicago Chamber of Commerce fosters community and economic development by empowering businesses with information and technical resources, and providing networking opportunities, area wide marketing, and other valuable programming.
Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to support both day-to-day operations and achieving our organizational goals through financial management and record keeping. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently using a thorough understanding of accounting principles to support our programing by completing financial transactions and providing accurate and timely financial reporting.
Job Description
- Utilize QuickBooks to accurately record financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
- Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and other financial records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Process payroll and liabilities within QuickBooks
- Compile and organize financial data to create comprehensive financial reports in QuickBooks and Excel
- Analyze financial data for discrepancies, errors, and variances; recommend corrective actions as needed.
- Prepare and process invoices, track payments, and follow up on outstanding balances.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, including making and receiving payments, vendor communication and customer invoicing.
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting regulations and standards.
- Communicate effectively with team members, clients, and vendors to address financial inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
- Assist Accountant with audit preparation.
- Assist Accountant with tax preparation with accountant.
Work Hours & Benefits
14-24 hours per week. Flexible scheduling based on availability. Remote work possible with QuickBooks Online experience. Earned sick leave, employee paid pretax transit and dependent care benefits, $25-$30 commensurate with experience
Qualifications and Skills
- Solid understanding of accounting principles, financial processes, and procedures.
- Strong analytical skills with an eye for detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently to meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Education, Experience, and Licensing
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- Experience as a Bookkeeper or similar role required.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop or QuickBooks Online required
- Experience with payroll processing preferred
- Experience with multi-company bookkeeping desirable
- Certification or Accreditation with QuickBooks desirable
- Experience with City of Chicago iSupplier system desirable
