Job Summary:
Provides support to perform the required standard operating procedures of the Core Research Facility. This includes the execution of research activities associated with established protocols. Works with Core Technician or Sr Core Technician in utilizing the facility's specialized equipment and services.
The High Throughput Laboratory (HTAL) is a shared, open-access resource established in 2004. HTAL provides academic, industrial, and private researchers with equipment and expertise for the development and execution of high throughput biological analysis and screening. The facility is fully equipped with state-of-the-art liquid handling, plate detection and automated microbial culture handling capabilities.
Specific Responsibilities :
Administration
• Performs intake functions for the laboratory such as logging of samples and service requests, and the dissemination of basic information to users (i.e., minimum requirements for services, costs, etc.).
• Maintains established laboratory inventories.
• Places orders.
• Records work accurately and completely.
Collaboration
• Interacts primarily with other Core Staff.
Compliance
• Follows University safety protocols, relative to the use of combustibles, radioactivity, toxic material, and/or carcinogenic.
• Maintains sterile conditions as required..
• Prepares reagents.
Scientific
• Conducts experiments, assays, and records results.
• Reads and follows experimental protocols.
• Calculates, compiles, and communicates results to the Core Scientist.
Technical
• Prepares and operates equipment for experiments, assays, measurements, etc.
• Supports the execution and facilitation of specialized services.
• Assists in performing minor equipment repairs, according to manufacturer and University guidelines.
• Cleans and performs general maintenance on equipment, according to established protocols.
• Abides by all University, sponsor and federal rules and regulations.

• DNA, RNA, Protein isolation, purification and expression
• Western blotting
• PCR, RT-PCR
• Plasmid preparation
• Recombinant virus production and purification
Cellular Biology:
• Cell culture, cell isolation
• Functional studies
• Transfection
• Immunofluorescence assays
• Image analysis and quantification
Microscopy Immunology:
• Flow cytometry
• ELISA, Elispot assay
• Cytokine assay
Equipment Used:
• Analytical balance
• Autoclave
• Centrifuge
• pH meter
• UV/Vis Spectrophotometer
• pH meter, plate reader
• High content microscope
• Automated liquid handlers

Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Successful completion of a full 2-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to an associate's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
• 1 year of technical or other relevant experience required.
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)
• Candidates for this position will have previous lab experience including solution preparation and experimental setup. Undergraduate research experience fulfills this minimum.
• Computer literacy.
Preferred Qualifications:
• BS in STEM field, preferably chemistry/biology/engineering.
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
• Data analysis experience.
• Cell culture experience/sterile technique.
• Coursework in cell biology, biochemistry, and chemistry.
Target hiring range for this position will be between $19.50-$22.35 per hour. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data
