Job Description
The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Department of Human Services (DHS) merged on July 1, 2022, to form one agency, the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). HHS, General Business Services team, is seeking an Administrative Assistant 2 that will be responsible for overall administrative support for the General Business Services bureau.
Summary:
This is a full-time opportunity, working Monday – Friday with typical hours being from 8:00 AM- 4:30 PM at the Lucas Building on the beautiful Capitol Complex, with free onsite parking.
Core Essential Functions:
- Serves as overall administrative support for the Bureau of General Business Services to assist with
- Manages HHS fleet cars including central office scheduling, maintenance, repairs and replacement of
- Attends meetings, including but not limited to DAS general service and building meetings, quarterly
participates in discussions and represents the Bureau Chief's and Agency's position regarding
department and statewide issues related to the operations or needs of the agency in which General Business Services oversees
- Assists with the annual individual county office budget developments and supports the LAE program
- Assists with writing Bureau policies and procedures and maintains the General Business Services
- Serves as the Department's building maintenance, parking, and badge access liaison with DAS.
- Other duties as assigned during the course of normal job duties or during an emergency.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in any field, and experience equal to one year of full-time administrative support (e.g., screening visitors and callers; opening/distributing mail, typing/proofing documents, letters, and reports; organizing files; scheduling meetings/appointments; arranging travel; processing travel claims; ordering supplies/equipment) or technical support work (e.g., determining budget, personnel, and equipment needs; compiling/evaluating statistical, historical, economic, business, financial or technical program data; interpreting or securing compliance with laws, rules and regulations; reviewing operating records/reports and evaluating their effectiveness).
- A total of five years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one) where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
- Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to 12 months of full-time work as an Administrative Assistant 1.
