Job Description and Duties

Under the general supervision of the Office Chief of Project Development, the SSA is responsible to assist with project delivery, budgetary, resource management and administrative support to ensure and facilitate completed staff work on matters of critical concern associated with the Project Development Office and within Caltrans. The SSA assists with researches, analyzes and monitors the allocation/expenditures and management of workload/staffing/budgets for the units within the divison. Other tasks include reviewing and analyzing various project and budget issues impacting the office.

Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Caltrans examination list. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. The incumbent will work in a climate-controlled office setting environment with artificial and natural lighting. Use of computer and other various office equipment is required. Occasional reaching above shoulder level, bending/stooping, and occasional lifting up to fifteen (15) pounds. The incumbent may occasionally travel in a variety of weather conditions to other State facilities to attend meetings, hand-deliver documents, or to purchase supplies from vendors.

This position may be eligible for telework. Telework from home may be required on a permanent basis in addition to office work at an assigned location. The amount and availability of telework and/or office work will be determined by the Department based on the functions of each position. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s current telework policy. While Caltrans supports telework, in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksite with minimal notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate may be required to conduct business travel on behalf of the Department or commute to the headquartered location. Business travel reimbursements considers an employee’s designated Headquarters Location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquarters location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
