This position is with NorthStar Clean Energy, a CMS Energy company, and is not a position of employment with Consumers Energy.   

 

What you will do:

The Senior People & Culture (P&C) Generalist handles Tier II escalations in the Service Center. They are responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and work closely with operations directors, plant managers, operations managers, supervisors, front-line employees and Human Resources management in supporting the needs of operations and the Human Resources Function. Senior P&C Generalists serve as true partners who specialize on all areas of HR, use data to influence and advise operations leadership, proactively recommend workforce development solutions to the plants’ talent challenges; and contribute to the design and delivery of HR programs to enable the workforce to deliver on the company’s strategy. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: employee relations, labor relations, coaching, employee development, conflict management, change management, performance management, onboarding, organizational development, policy implementation and interpretation, affirmative action, and employment law compliance.

  • Detail orientation with ability to quickly and effectively handle multiple priorities and assignments to meet deadlines.

 

  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, business management or, relevant degree

 

  • 4+ years of experience with human capital analytics with the ability to extract data from information sources and use it for analysis of trends and issues impacting the business. Experience with making recommendations to operational leaders. Experience providing counsel and feedback to operational leaders at all levels of the organization with diplomacy and tact.

 

Preferred

  • SHRM Certification

 

  • Progressive Human Resources Generalist experience is preferred

 

 

In this role, you will: 

 

  • Provides guidance and coaching to leaders regarding policy interpretation, workforce/succession planning, talent pipeline development, employee development, and employee/labor relations matters. Researches and responds to general and 2nd tier escalations to general P&C inquires.

 

  • Serves as support to front-line employees by demonstrating visible leadership by advocating on employees’ behalf that that require resolution on key topics.

 

  • Provides leaders and co-workers guidance on singular performance concerns, coaching, development, and employee relation concerns. Will lead or partner in investigations.

 

  • Uses observations from visible leadership and data/analytics to extract information then perform analysis on trends and issues impacting the area; makes recommendations to leaders on mitigating issues/risks and implements action plans accordingly.

 

  • Partner with stakeholders and COE's on singular requests i.e., job evaluations, pay changes, benefit support, absence management etc. Leverages compensation to review local market rates for operations facilities and recommends adjustments when appropriate.

 

  • Partners with leaders across operations and talent acquisition to identify and develop talent pipelines with external outreach partners.

 

  • Assists with the development of talent management processes and assists in the identification, selection, and development of key and high potential employees. May also identify broader skill gaps across operations and recommend training programs to close those gaps.

 

  • Leads and drives the implementation of change management activities across assigned business unit.

 

  • Supports annual people processes such as: performance management, goal setting, calibration, merit planning and talent reviews.

 

  • Leads and drives the implementation of change management activities across assigned business unit.

 

  • Other non-essential duties as assigned or may be necessary.
