Position Details
The City of Auburn Parks, Arts, & Recreation Department is seeking a talented Recreation & Events Assistant. In this position you will assist with the planning and implementation of events and recreation programs; providing support related to special events and recreation programs; and preparing and takedown of facilities/rooms for activities and events. The incumbent may be required to work flexible schedules, including some evenings and/or weekends, as assigned.
OUR PARKS DEPARTMENT
Auburn's Recreation Division provides opportunities for the public to participate in diverse recreational programs and activities designed to meet the needs of the community. These programs include preschool, youth, teen, and adult leisure programs; youth, teen, and adult athletics; fitness and wellness programs; programs designed to provide social and recreational opportunities to senior citizens and those with special needs, and a host of special events suitable for the entire family and community at large. OUR CITY
The City of Auburn is home to over 80,000 residents and encompasses over 29.8 square miles of land, two rivers, and is part of two counties - King and Pierce. The City operates as a Strong-Mayor form of Mayor-Council government, with a City Council of seven at-large members.
Primary Duties
In this role, you will:
Assist City staff with recreation and event program planning, day-of-event duties, volunteer supervision, facility supervision, and other program, activity, or event related duties, as assigned.- Assist with marketing activities, events, and programs, including but not limited to, creating and updating websites, email communications, and social media.
- Monitor the daily activity calendar at the Auburn Community & Event Center to ensure spaces are prepped for specific events; prepares and breaks down facilities/rooms before, and after, events in a timely manner; organizes the room and sets up and puts away equipment and supplies as needed.
- Perform regularly scheduled tasks between City facilities including City Hall, bank, campground, and ball fields, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who have:
- High school diploma, or equivalent
- one (1) year of successful work experience in recreation or a similar field.
- Valid state driver’s license, without impending loss at time of appointment.
- Possess, or has the ability to obtain, a CPR and First Aid certificate within three months of appointment
- Possession of a King County Public Health Department Food Handler's Permit is required within one (1) month of employment as a condition of work.
