General Purpose:
The Property Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance operations for the company's real estate assets.
Duties & Objectives
Financial Management and Reporting
- Lead month-end close procedures: journal entries, accruals, variance analysis, and reconciling general ledger accounts.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements and internal reports for specific entities, adhering to deadlines.
- Ensure accurate and up-to-date management of cash, including forecasting future cash requirements to meet obligations.
- Manage fixed asset accounting, including classification, tracking, and depreciation schedules for assigned entities.
Accounts Management
- Supervise the accounts payable and billing processes, ensuring transactions are accurate, properly approved, and coded.
- Maintain timely and accurate cash account records, including monthly bank reconciliations.
Tax and Compliance
- Accurately prepare and submit property and excise tax returns, ensuring timely payment of company taxes.
- Assist in preparing for annual audits and tax filings,ensuring compliance and punctuality.
Budgeting and Forecasting
- Liaise with departments to ensure budget adherence, assisting in the preparation of budget reports and annual budget processes.
- Prepare key performance indicators, forecasts for revenues and expenses, and conduct variance analytics.
Operational Support
- Undertake additional duties and special projects as needed.
- Complete responsibilities following organizational policies and procedures.
- Establish and maintain effective communication and coordination within the team and with management.
Loan and Equity Management
- Manage capital calls, distribution calculations, and other payments to owners.
- Process loan payments and prepare quarterly lender covenant reporting.
Knowledge, Skills, & Requirements
- Expertise in financial reporting, tax planning, and budget management.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Experience in Yardi strongly preferred as well as advanced Excel skills.
- Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively lead a team and collaborate with other departments.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing business needs.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field strongly preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of accounting experience within the real estate or property management industry.
- Demonstrated experience in financial strategy, team leadership, and operational improvement.
- Proven track record of managing accounting teams and improving financial processes and reporting.
Work Environment and Conditions:
- This role is remote but candidates must live in Washington state.
