Overview
The Institute for Disability Research, Policy & Practice in the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services at Utah State University seeks applications for an Instructional Designer II position. The department is seeking an experienced and dynamic team member who will foster excellence in instructional design, training development, and information dissemination at the IDRPP.
This position is a full-time fiscal-year appointment. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2023. Review of applications will begin April 15, 2023 and continue until the position is filled.

Responsibilities
The Instructional Designer II will work with PIs and teams across the Institute to develop and improve the design and delivery of online and virtual curricula and trainings. The Instructional Designer II will be responsible for:
  • Collaborate with projects and teams across the IDRPP to evaluate and develop innovative instructional interfaces and materials that will increase student recruitment, knowledge retention, and enhance the visibility of the IDRPP
  • Create engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances retention and transfer
  • Work with PIs and subject matter experts and identify target audience's training needs
  • Assist PIs in identifying instructional end goals and create content that matches them
  • Creating instructional graphics, user interfaces, and other instructional products
  • Conduct instructional research and analysis on learners and contexts
  • Apply tested instructional design theories, practice and methods
  • Work with PIs to integrate exercises and activities that enhance the learning process
  • Create supporting material/media (audio, video, simulations, role plays, games etc)
  • Working with PIs to help determine how to best measure learner's performance and develop assessment instruments
  • Maintain project documentation and course folders
  • Managing project resources and budgets as appropriate
  • Participate in the IDRPP Program Coordinators group and other relevant workgroups.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in instructional design or related field plus two years of working experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models

Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in instructional design, educational technology or similar
  • Understanding and experience with University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) programs
  • Experience with research and publication of academic content
  • Instructional experience in higher education, specifically related to mental health (mindfulness, stress management etc.)
  • Demonstrated understanding of accessibility standards
  • Successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to supporting:
    • inclusion and achievement of staff and students, particularly those from underrepresented groups;
    • facilitating opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Skilled in the use of computers, instructional media and graphic design programs, and relevant authoring and programming languages.
  • Knowledge of html, CSS, image and video editing software, and MS Office.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the instructional systems design process.
  • Ability to understand and interpret educational needs and to develop effective instructional media solutions.
  • Knowledge of learning theory.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of graphic design.
  • Knowledge of instructional video production principles, methods, techniques, and standards.
  • Knowledge of desktop publishing methods, procedures, and requirements.
  • Ability to build and maintain website content.
  • Ability to prepare and present workshops and other trainings as requested.
  • Ability to lead and manage projects and personnel.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Visual design skills (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator) and ability to develop infographics and other visual products.
  • Solid knowledge of course development software and at least one Learning Management System (i.e. Canvas, BlackBoard, Moodle etc.)
  • Lesson and curriculum planning skills
  • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts

Funding Statement
The Institute for Disability Research, Policy, & Practice is one of the largest research and outreach centers at USU, and we are largely funded through grants, contracts, and fee-for-service programs. All staff positions at the IDRPP are contingent upon funding, and all senior staff at the IDRPP with graduate degrees are responsible for helping to generate funding to support our operations and growth.
