Job Summary
Under general supervision, the human resource Consultant Assistant will perform paraprofessional, technical, and clerical tasks in support of WVC's Human Resources. The incumbent will explain, interpret and apply human resource policies, procedures and programs to employees and external customers. Review and ensure the accuracy and completeness of human resource documents. Provide technical assistance to support the employment, and records processes; provide guidance to others in registering or applying for human resource programs, maintain confidential records and generate reports. Provide general office support for the Human Resources department.
Essential Functions
- Creates a welcoming atmosphere in the HR office, greets and refers visitors to appropriate staff person, answers phone and responds to requests appropriately, provides information to visitors and explains policies, rules and regulations applicable to HR.
- Receives, reviews, ensures the accuracy and completeness of, compiles and/or maintains human resource data, documents and records such as leave and salary records and employee data forms.
- Assists human resource staff in administering a variety of human resource functions such as employment, employee training and orientation, benefits enrollment, special assignments and part time hourly appointments.
- Enters and/or retrieves data from human resource information or other computerized recordkeeping systems.
- Performs employment verifications.
- Prepares responses to unemployment claims.
- Prepares correspondence and spreadsheets.
- Schedules and arranges meetings, employment interviews; assists in presentation at job fairs and other outreach activities.
- Assists in developing internal office procedures.
- Maintains personnel files through establishing new files, separating files and archiving files.
- Establishes, maintains, separates and destroys paper and electronic employee personnel records in accordance with the Washington State Records Retention Schedule.
- Sorts and distributes mail; maintains and orders supplies as needed.
- Provides overall office support through maintaining and filing of documents (both manually and electronically), photo-copying, faxing and composing correspondence.
- Taking meeting minutes or notes as needed.
- May direct the work of others.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- Two years of increasingly responsible office experience or equivalent education/experience.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to complete work accurately and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with computers and software applications.
- Customer service experience.
- Associate of arts degree or higher.
- Proficient with Microsoft Outlook and Office Suite.
- Experience working in a collaborative format with diverse groups; experience in working with situations which require meeting and greeting the public.
- Demonstrated competency and experience working in a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, gender and racial/ethnic backgrounds and those with physical, emotional and or learning disabilities.
- Experience creating digital content (such as Word/PDF documents and web and learning management system content as appropriate to the role) in accessible formats.
- Experience with Peoplesoft software.
Additional Information
The current vacancy in Human Resources is a full-time, overtime and benefit eligible position expected to begin as soon as possible. The starting salary is $47,688 annually ($22.84 per hour) with periodic increases and earning potential to $55,224 annually ($26.45 per hour). The list established by this recruitment will be active for a minimum of three months and be used to fill this position only.

Work Schedule & Environment:
- Work hours are generally 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday; hours and days may change depending on the needs of the college. Work in a busy office environment with frequent interruptions and distractions.
