Position Description: Energy Specialist

As an Energy Specialist, you will be entrusted with recruiting and training plumbing and HVAC contractors. In addition, you will conduct outreach to plumbing and HVAC distributors and deliver presentations and training to support the adoption of energy-efficient water heating installations with high customer satisfaction.

We are seeking an individual located in the Pacific Northwest. The position will require regular regional travel.

  • Demonstrate expertise and experience in residential construction, specifically focusing on plumbing, water heating and HVAC.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead outreach, education and account management for plumbers and HVAC contractors to help them adopt and install energy-efficient water heating equipment and participate in energy efficiency programs.
  • Define and develop program support plans for key contractor accounts.
  • Work with and build trusting relationships in diverse communities.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to plumbers, HVAC technicians, utility representatives and other stakeholders.
  • Provide cross-training for plumbers and HVAC trade allies to promote energy efficiency projects.
  • Support sales efforts with contractors and their customers to sell energy efficiency projects.
  • Conduct on-site training with contractors and/or utility representatives for energy efficiency programs.
  • Work with contractors, distributors and other market actors to understand and promote energy efficiency programs.
  • Participate in and present at company and industry trainings, communications, and program planning efforts to drive successful results and meet client needs.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed project tracking records to document relationship management, sales efforts and training of energy efficiency activities.

  • Organizational and presentation skills are necessary.
  • Must take ownership of the work, self-initiate and follow through. This requires planning ahead, managing time well, and being available and accessible to provide solutions.
  • A high school diploma with some higher education or vocational training specializing in residential plumbing and/or HVAC.
  • Preferred minimum of five (5) years’ experience in residential construction, energy efficiency programs, utility experience or a combination.

Physical Requirements:

  • Long periods of standing/walking on rough/uneven surfaces.
  • Accessing crawl or attic spaces for quality assurance or training purposes.
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods working on a computer.
  • Driving a personal vehicle daily and/or over long distances regionally.
  • Ability to occasionally travel via commercial airlines.
  • Lifting, pushing, pulling or carrying up to 50lbs
  • Speaking/hearing - provide clear, accurate communication, hear telephone and warning devices.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Around high noise levels and energized electrical equipment (at times).
  • Moving mechanical parts (at times).
  • Perform work in all weather conditions.
  • Driving up to 3-4 hours on paved/unpaved roads.

Other Requirements:

  • We are a fully remote telecommuting organization; must have dependable transportation, a valid driver’s license and verifiable insurance.
  • Drug test – must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Pre-employment background check.
  • A solid internet connection and home-work space.
  • Evergreen will provide a computer (programs for the position included in the computer setup), two monitors, a monitor stand, speakers, a webcam, a docking station, a wireless keyboard and mouse, and a surge suppressor.
  • Must be available for occasional evening, early morning and weekend meetings and events.
