STARS - Scottsdale Training & Rehabilitation Services is seeking an experienced accounting professional to join our Finance department as a Full Charge Bookkeeper. Incumbent will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting activities within the non-profit organization.

The Full Charge Bookkeeper will maintain the business financial ledger, prepare financial statements, and record complex transactions in a timely and accurate manner. They will receive general direction regarding routine and standard transactions as well as specific instruction regarding non-routine and sensitive matters. They will also work with outside experts, such as certified public accountants (CPA), and report directly to the CFO.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the CFO in providing support for the organization's fiscal operations.
- Process and maintain all aspects of accounts payable.
- Prepare and submit all billings for services rendered.
- Assist in the collection of accounts receivable.
- Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations as part of the monthly/annual close processes.
- Prepare monthly/annual financial reports for management.
- Maintain the fixed asset system.
- Reconcile all bank accounts and petty cash; investigate differences; manage outstanding checks.
- Assist in annual audit preparation and other compliance reporting.
- Obtain and maintain Form W-9 files to be used for preparation and filing of 1099 forms.
- Respond to inquiries and requests for information from employees, outside agencies/vendors, and external auditors.
- Develop and maintain documentation for financial processes.
- Prepare and distribute client attendance, client/staff ratio reports, and other program reports, as required.
- Monitor, research, and analyze donation and pledge activity.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting and auditing principles.
- Knowledge of Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES) Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) billing procedures and reporting standards.
- Proficient with the full MS Office suite.
- Skilled in accounting system maintenance and troubleshooting common system problems.
- Skilled in preparing journal entries and reconciling cash and other balance sheet accounts.
- Knowledge of non-profit and accrual accounting preferred.
- Must be detail-oriented with strong organization, planning, and time-management skills.
- Ability to collaborate with staff and to develop, document, interpret, and train others on accounting policies and procedures.
- Ability to analyze and implement solutions to complex accounting issues.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or a related field and/or equivalent experience, licenses, certifications required. A minimum of five years of accounting experience is required. OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
- Must have knowledge of GAAP reporting requirements.
- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliation processes, journal entries, and other day-to-day bookkeeping activities.
- Experience with MS Office Suite; Expert level experience in Excel required.
- Strong knowledge of Accounting software applications. QuickBooks experience is highly preferred.
- Prior experience with non-profit agency fund accounting with fiscal operations preferred.
- Experience with budget development, DDD, and Vocational Rehabilitation billing systems a plus.
