Front Desk Assistant
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The below duties and responsibilities are not intended to be all inclusive but rather a general reflection of the expectations of this position.
- May open the center daily
- Answer phones, screen calls, take and deliver messages and place calls as directed or necessary.
- Serve as a liaison between physicians and referring facilities; ensure vascular access procedure results are forwarded to the dialysis facility and referring physician.
- Verify patient insurance and obtain authorizations when indicated.
- Review patient schedule to maximize patient services, check for cancellations and add in patients; check availability to accommodate emergency patients when indicated.
- Arrange patient transportation as needed.
- Prepare patient charts and obtain consents with the exception of the procedure consent on all patients.
- Filing, typing, and other clerical duties as directed by the Practice Administrator, Physician, or other staff members.
- As assigned by the Practice Administrator, assist other staff members.
- Proactively monitor and provide information for ordering office supplies.
- Receive shipments and send mail and packages as directed by the Practice Administrator, Physician, or other staff members.
- Amend and correct billing problems and retain copies of all incoming requests.
- Comply with Humble Vascular Surgical Center policies and procedures in accordance with state and federal regulations for patient care and services (HIPA, OSHA, or other governing agencies).
- Comply with state or federal regulations of the Injury Prevention and Safety Training Program.
- Attend educational activities, in-services, and staff meetings as required.
- Be knowledgeable of facility emergency plans in an effort to act swiftly and confidently in an emergency.
- Able to work overtime with little notice if asked to do so.
- Consistent regular punctual attendance as scheduled is an essential responsibility of this position.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Medical secretary experience a plus.
- Minimum of one year’s experience in a related administrative position in a medical setting (strongly preferred).
- Demonstrated abilities in basic clerical skills, filing, and all office machines
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office products and Outlook).
