Community Benefit refers to initiatives, activities, and investments undertaken by tax-exempt hospitals to improve the health of the communities they serve. These initiatives seek to achieve one or more of the following objectives:
Improve access to services,
Enhance the health of the community,
Advance medical knowledge, and
Reduce government burden to improve health
Maryland law defines Community Benefit as a planned, organized, and measured activity that is intended to meet identified community health needs within a service area. The programs and/or activities planned for Community Benefit promote health and healing in response to the community's needs. These needs are defined by the Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA).
JOB SUMMARY
The ideal candidate for this position will have two to four years of experience in healthcare setting or a Maryland state CHW certificate and have experience working with Baltimore City's low-income populations who are disproportionately underserved and have health-related needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION
Community Benefit
Collaborate with community health programs and explore new opportunities to further the hospital's mission in response to identified health priorities.
Assist with the preparation of the hospital's COMMUNITY BENEFIT plan and community health needs assessment; monitor the progress of plan's goals and objectives.
Work with multiple stakeholders (senior management, clinicians, physicians and community organizations) to implement and evaluate outreach services in accordance with the hospital and the system strategic plans.
Provide health education on various topics.
Attend community meetings, health fairs and events.
Assist with the coordination of advocacy efforts that impact community health and quality of life.
Administrative tasks such as collecting and inputting data, report writing, meeting minutes, and meeting agendas.
Attend staff meetings as assigned.
Child Passenger Safety Seat
Manage Child Passenger Safety Seat Program which includes education, outreach, and implementation.
Schedule, plan, and staff Child Passenger Safety presentations.
Provide technical assistance on child passenger safety to MWPH clinical staff, patient families, and communities.
Provide KISS resources and information for MWPH website.
Attend meetings as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Working knowledge of social and health issues.
Familiarity with medical terminology beneficial.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to establish rapport and work efficiently with diverse groups of community members and team members.
Excellent organizational skills, flexibility, and the ability to work independently to get things accomplished.
Excellent time management skills.
Must have own transportation.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)
Competent in providing community education on health prevention topics to all audiences that comprise various ages, education levels, and socio-economic status.
Willingness to obtain and maintain National Child Passenger Safety Certification within three months of employment start date (will be scheduled via employer).
Availability to work evenings and weekend events as needed.
Ability to lift and transport display items, educational material, car seats, which may weigh above twenty pounds.
Willingness to work in uncomfortable or unpleasant surroundings (car seat installations/checks require working in and around participant's vehicles in a variety of locations and may include exposure to uncomfortable weather conditions.

TOOLS/EQUIPMENT USED
General office equipment, including but not limited to PC (including applicable software), multi-function telephone, copier and fax machine.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/WORKING CONDITIONS
Position will be housed in the Administrative Building in a general office environment and requires the candidate to travel to low income areas of Baltimore City.
