HJC Overview
Housing Justice Center (HJC) is a nonprofit public interest advocacy and legal organization that works to strengthen tenant protections, preserve and expand affordable housing, and improve our housing system so all Minnesotans can be stably housed with dignity while remaining rooted in community. The tools we use for this work are community organizing, research, education, policy advocacy, and legal advocacy.

Prevent affordable housing loss, tenant displacement, discrimination, and exploitation of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) households, people with disabilities, and low-wealth individuals and families
Ensure people have real choices for safe, healthy, affordable, accessible, culturally adaptive, and convenient housing
Support communities in building power to drive decision-making about their housing futures
Job Summary
Housing Justice Center seeks an adaptable and collaborative Administrative Assistant to add to our growing team. This 0.5 FTE position will provide administrative support to ensure the smooth daily operation of HJC’s office and staff, with emphasis on supporting executive leadership. This position reports to the Operations Manager.
Schedule: Tuesday-Friday, 12-5 pm. HJC offers flexible scheduling and hybrid working arrangements, with consideration of position requirements and employee needs.
Primary Duties
Office Management
Work from the office, at least twice weekly, to maintain space and support staff needs.
Create a welcoming office environment. Act as first point of contact for guests.
Order and maintain office supplies inventory, including furniture and electronics.
Upkeep physical office space: organize supplies and engage in general tidying.
Check and route mail regularly. Manage mailing needs, including post office visits and supply purchases. Accept office deliveries and coordinate returns.
Administrative Assistance
Organize and schedule meetings for leadership staff, supervisors, and others, as requested. Schedule interviews for hiring and volunteer/internship placements.
Carry out administrative duties such as filing, data entry, copying, scanning, etc. Organize, arrange, and maintain relevant files in HJC’s shared drive.
Arrange logistics for staff professional development and work-related needs. Register for events, book travel and lodgings, and send confirmations to staff.
Coordinate logistics for HJC trainings/events. Arrange the purchase and pickup/delivery of food and supplies, reserve spaces, and liaise with vendors/partners.
Regularly check and triage incoming emails for the HJC inbox. Add/delete/edit events on HJC all-staff calendar. Triage emails for executive leadership staff, as requested.
Required Qualifications
1+ years administrative, office, or executive support experience
High school diploma or equivalent
Strong writing, time and data management, organizational, and computer skills required
Excellent interpersonal communication and mindful problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team of legal professionals, organizers, advocates, community members/partners, and vendors

Preferred Qualifications
3+ years administrative, office, or executive support experience
Associate or Bachelor’s Degree
Compensation
The Administrative Assistant position is compensated at $20-21 hourly, depending on qualifications. HJC observes 10 paid holidays, 1 floating holiday, and a paid week of renewal (December 25-January 1). Vacation and sick time is accrued on a prorated basis for part-time employees.
