Job Description
The Kimbell Art Museum seeks an organized individual to join the Conservation department. The candidate will provide general support to the Chief conservator and other professional members of staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide administrative support to the department, including:
- Types and files correspondence and reports
- Liaises with other Kimbell staff, as needed
- Coordinates the shipment of artwork for conservation projects
- Scans, creates digital mosaics of technical images (i.e. infrared reflectograms, X-radiographs, etc.), and adjusts these images results digitally for department review
- Conducts regular environmental checks, including but not limited, to measuring light levels and monitoring hygrothermographs
Purchasing and Office
- Manages inventory of material and coordinates purchasing of specific conservation and other supplies
- Organizes and maintains all department files, including digital assets and hardcopy files
General Conservation Department Duties:
- Serves as a point of contact for inquiries from the public regarding the department?s activities
- Schedules appointments, makes travel arrangements, and maintains calendar for conservation staff
- Reshelve books in the Conservation library as needed
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
- Undergraduate degree or 3+ years? experience in an office environment preferred
- Excellent organizational and computer skills (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Photoshop) are crucial
- Strong written, interpersonal, and oral communication skills required
- Basic knowledge of art and a foreign language (e.g. French, Italian, German, or Spanish) desirable
- Enthusiasm for working in a museum
- Must be trustworthy, honest, confidential, discreet, professional, detail oriented, team player, and have a positive attitude
- Ability to bend, stretch, kneel, reach, climb stairs/stepladders as needed
- Applicants must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background and drug screening
