Utility Billing Specialist

The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Utility Billing Specialistto support the day-to-day operations of our Utility Billing division in our Finance department. Are you service-oriented? Could you excel in a fast-paced environment? If so, you may be perfect for this position.

The Utility Billing Specialist earns a competitive hourly salary of $17.77 - $19.24/ based on experience. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A UTILITY BILLING SPECIALIST

JOB SUMMARY

The purpose of this class within the organization is to provide overall Utility Billing for the City and maintain meter register information for accurate billing purposes.

This class works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks.

Essential Functions:

• Cycles bills to bill water, sewer, and garbage customers; rechecks work orders are created as necessary.
• Sends bills to third party to be mailed out.
• Creates reading files from billing system to obtain readings for billing.
• Completes daily work orders which include final bills, off cycle bills, initial readings, seasonal average for new customers, maintenance, delinquency cut offs, and reactivations.
• Enters meters correctly and sets to customer's accounts to ensure accurate billing.
• Submits cancels and rebilling as corrections are needed on customer's accounts due to incorrect readings and incorrect information set on customer's accounts.
• Submits adjustments as corrections are needed on customer's accounts due to incorrect readings and incorrect information set on customer's accounts.

Additional Duties:

• Updates City rates for water and sewer; updates Waste Management rates for garbage; updates any other rates billed by Utility Billing.
• Submits annually calculations for seasonal average based on December, January and February usage for residential customers.
• Bills interceptors annually for businesses that require a grease, oil, grit, lint or grass trap.
• Creates annual reading and billing calendar, including input into the billing system. Input to billing system includes bill dates, due dates and delinquency dates.
• Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

• Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one year of college.
• Requires two years billing or closely related experience.
