Job Description:
The Brand Marketing Design Team is focused on building the SRE brand. By combining user insights, trend forecasting, strategic thinking, and visual storytelling, our team creates a wide range of work that drives Scholastic's reputation for being beloved by children, respected by teachers, parents, schools, and communities.
The Senior Brand Designer will work independently to create fully developed style guides and strategically driven brand impressions that serve to directly impact revenue. Through this hands-on work they will influence impact across the company and help lead the design team by example.
This role involves partnership with other cross-functional team leads, to infuse our brand's visual language into the Scholastic Book Fairs and Clubs brands across their products and initiatives. It particularly includes close partnership and influence with Marketing Creative team leaders (Editorial and Associate Editorial Directors) to establish and maintain the highest quality bar of confluence between design, content, copy, and UX across all deliverables, thus aligning with the Design Directors as a key advocate and authority for complete synergistic creative.
The Senior Brand Designer will work directly with senior leadership on occasion, to assist with the highest profile internal projects such as Town Hall and other executive facing presentations. This may involve liaising 1:1 with VPs, SVPs or the President of SRE, and helping to translate timely information and important communications into branded presentations at the highest level.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conceptualize and execute successful cross-platform design strategies for Scholastic brands including Book Fairs and Book Clubs, and major event campaigns.
• With minimal guidance and oversight from the Design Directors, act as advocate and source of truth for implementation and integration of Scholastic Book Fairs visual style and tone, ensuring Design Guidelines and Design Style Guide are continuously updated via the Designers and freelance consultant efforts.
• Offer deep thought partnership, innovation, strategy, and market awareness to assist the Design Directors and VP, Creative in the development of the new Scholastic Book Clubs visual voice and tone, and leverage relationships and ongoing collaboration with Creative Marketing team leaders (Associate Editorial and Editorial Directors) in ensuring confluence between design and copy.
• Translate project goals into creative excellence that positions our brands and their trademarks to consumers, the trade, marketing partners and internal audiences.
• Reinforce the Brand Promises. Ensure that all work is informed by and reinforces the Brand Promises while delivering on marketing and creative strategy goals.
• Brand consistency. Strive to ensure that all promotions, digital or printed, are consistent to each other and to the Brands.
• Maintain innovation. Work to maintain freshness, creative excellence, and a level of innovation that will uphold and enhance the Scholastic Brand.
• Present Persuasively. Be able to present work to clients and partners by being at once responsive to their needs while still maintaining the creative parameters of the brands.
• Oversee Production. Make sure executed work upholds the brands' standard of innovation and excellence.
• Maintain fiscal responsibility. Work closely with project managers, graphics managers, and production managers to stay within budget and on deadline for all projects.
• Stay up-to-date on graphic design and computer technology industry news and trends, the latest individual titles offered at SRE, and relevant character or property information via shared subscriptions to trade publications, attending conferences or seminars, internal communications from Product, and regular updates around our Closed Facebook Group.
• Actively seek out and share references, inspiration, and data points for creative approaches that are relevant and timely to our brand, the marketplace, and the zeitgeist.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
• Seasoned Kids and Family brand specialist, with excellent command of design and branding principles, and an eagle eye for detail
• Experience designing for a variety of audiences and platforms, particularly translating complicated content into digestible and attractive visual collateral, and approachable to Scholastic's consumer base
• Must have solid understanding of stylistic design approach that drives consumers to action and the nuances of shifting design lenses for various audiences
• Keen interest in popular culture and how it relates to the Scholastic brand.
• Proven self-starter with a great attitude and thoughtful point-of-view
• Top-notch organization, time-, and project-management skills, with an ability to think critically, communicate effectively, and work independently in a fast-paced environment
• Strong desire to work for Scholastic and drive brand affinity
• Flexible team player with experience working within and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams at all levels
• Working knowledge of both Adobe and Microsoft-based software: Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign, Express, Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and G Suite
Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree or equivalent in Graphic Design
• Minimum 15+ years' experience designing and art directing in kids and family media, agency, and/or branded content environments, with a portfolio representing this background
