The Gene Therapy group of Janssen Therapeutics Discovery offers an exciting opportunity to help develop novel Gene Therapies for unmet medical needs. We are investigating the use of Adeno-Associated Virus (AAV) vectors for gene replacement and to deliver therapeutic proteins to patients for disease prevention as well as treatment. The successful candidate will add to our capabilities for assessing optimal cargo configurations and capsid profiles with a focus on evaluating expression and biological activity in relevant cells and tissues.
Key Responsibilities :
- Develop assays to evaluate AAV transduction in cell-lines, iPSC-derived cells, and primary tissues.
- Designing and implementing assays to analyze protein payloads for biochemical properties including binding and functional assays.
- Test engineered designs in cell culture and AAV vectors in animal models in collaboration with other Gene Therapy functional groups and therapeutic area scientists to measure gene expression levels, tissue specificity, and function to develop therapeutic leads.
Qualifications
Education:
- Minimum of a B.S./B.A. with at least 5 years of experience OR M.S. with at least 2 years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical industry or academic environment is required.
Experience and Skills:
Required:
- Hands-on experience with mammalian tissue culture for a minimum of 2 years is required.
- Ability to design multicolor flow cytometry panels is required.
- Experience performing quantitative gene expression analyses such as ddPCR/ qPCR, reporter gene assays (such as luciferase, SEAP, and fluorescence), and/or immunohistochemistry is required.
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and across sites is required.
Preferred:
- Experience with iPSC and organoid models is preferred.
- Skillful at ex vivo tissue processing and analysis is preferred.
- Proficiency in bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing sample preparation is preferred.
The anticipated base pay range for this position $88,000 to $141,450.
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
