First Supply has an exciting opportunity available for an enthusiastic, safety-driven individual to join our team as a Safety Coordinator! This position can be based in Madison, Milwaukee, Sheboygan, La Crosse, Eau Claire, Appleton, WI, Minneapolis, MN.
The Safety Coordinator reports to the Corporate Safety Manager and works closely with the HR Director and all levels of management and administration to minimize loss and maximize productivity through the continuing development and improvement of applicable Safety and OSHE (Occupational, Health, Safety, and Environmental) Program as well as Workers Compensation claim management.
- Promotes safety and safety programs as a core value in order to maintain a positive corporate safety culture.
- Provides support for activities related to safety and occupational health and safety for assigned locations.
- Administers Annual Safety Training to all employees, warehouse supervisors and managers in partnership with the Corporate Safety Manager.
- Manages the safety content and administration of the LMS safety platform.
- Conducts incident and accident investigations and follow up as required.
- Facilitates open and candid safety-related communications with frontline employees in an effort to improve safety outcomes.
- Administers the workers compensation and return to work program for the company in partnership with the insurance carrier and broker to ensures claims are resolved quickly for the lowest cost possible.
- Acts as the liaison and facilitates communication and follow up between branch leadership, HR and the employee when administering employee post injury activities.
- Assists with oversight of safety team process and execution at the branch locations.
- Assists the Corporate Safety Manager in leading and implementing corporate-wide safety projects.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent work experience.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or International Society of Safety Professionals (ISSP) certification preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of distribution and transportation environments, DOT (Department of Transportation) and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) requirements.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to create and deliver training presentations.
- Effective problem-solving skills.
- Strong computer skills and database management experience, including but not limited to intermediate Excel, Outlook, and MS Word.
- Ability to prioritize work.
- Attention to detail.
- Must be able to travel up to 50%.
- High energy, drive and sense of urgency.
- Drug test with negative results on employment offer
- Ability to be bonded as defined by First Supply Group’s fidelity bond insurance carrier
- Satisfactory score on the Wonderlic Personnel Test and/or Caliper Assessment
- Valid driver’s license and a driving record which meets underwriting standards
- Ability to read, speak, understand and write English
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure
- Attendance on a regular and consistent basis
