Department Information
The School of Psychology is dedicated to advancing psychological science through cutting-edge research, innovative education, and impactful community engagement. Our faculty and student researchers strive to promote a scientific understanding of the human brain, cognition, mind, environment, and behavior. We are committed to translating our knowledge of the organization of the brain and behavior to improve workforce development, the human condition and well-being, inspire future technologies, and improve the world.

Excellent research facilities support the School's research and interdisciplinary graduate programs across the Institute. Our programs emphasize interdisciplinary collaboration, quantitative training, critical thinking, and hands-on experience, preparing students for leadership positions in academia, industry, and public service. In addition to Quantitative Psychology, the School of Psychology includes programs in Cognition and Brain Science, Cognitive Aging, Engineering Psychology, and Industrial/Organizational Psychology. The Janus Laboratory directed by Dr. Hsiao-Wen Liao at Georgia Tech is seeking a full-time staff - Research Technician I. Our research examines memory processes that foster or hinder self-regulation, goal pursuit, and well being in adulthood and old age. We also investigate activities that promote interactions between younger and older generations. This position will provide exposure to research related to memory and aging, engaged lifestyles, mental health and well being. This position is ideal for someone considering graduate school or health profession.


Job Summary


Provide basic technical support services required for conducting tests and experiments in a school or research laboratory within the Institute. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: academic and research faculty, co-workers. This position typically will advise and counsel: NA. This position will supervise: NA.

Responsibilities


Job Duty 1 -
Gather, compile and summarize data in conjunction with assigned scientific tests, experiments, etc
Job Duty 2 -
Collect and prepare samples for use in assigned tests
Job Duty 3 -
Prepare statistical analyses and maintain related records.
Job Duty 4 -
Operate various equipment used in research studies.
Job Duty 5 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications


Educational Requirements
Technical Diploma, Associate's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Experience
One to two years of job related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Eligible to work in the USA and must have completed (at the time of the start-date) a B.A. or B.Sc. degree in Psychology, Computer Science, Social Sciences or a closely related field
  • Looking for a self-motivated and proactive learner as well as a problem solver who is willing to work with new technologies
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and enjoy working with adult participants of ages
  • Skillful in Using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Photoshop
  • Some familiarity with programming (in R or Python) and basic statistical analyses.
  • A 1-year commitment is required (with the possibility of extending the position for one additional year)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Have a drivers license and a vehicle for off-campus data collection
  • Some familiarity with Unity and VR research

Other Information


Research Technician I will assist with data collection on campus and off campus involving use of virtual reality technologies and assist with other research activities (e.g., participant recruitment and scheduling, data preparation, literature search). This person will also assist with some administrative tasks (e.g., communicating with IT/technicians/service providers for software/apps updates, coordinating lab activities, corresponding to IRB).
