Provide professional level support to a school or research laboratory within the Institute in conducting and reporting results of tests and experiments. Includes coordination of lab testing processes, analysis of data and protocol design. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: academic and research faculty, co-workers. JOB SUMMARY
Research Technician in the Skolnick Group in the School of Biological Sciences, Georgia Tech
Seeking an experienced lab technician with expertise in the screening of drugs and other small molecules in cancer
cell lines to establish the ability of AI algorithms to identify effective anticancer molecules. The successful candidate
will be highly motivated, be a self-starter and be able to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
Key aspects of the job include:
- Performing drug screening cell line studies.
- Develop and optimize methods needed to expand and characterize cell lines.
- Preparation of cell culture media and associated reagents and growth factors.
- Execute assays utilizing cell cultures with data analysis to support diverse research projects, DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, immunofluorescence, and Western blotting.
- Maintaining cell culture equipment including cleaning, CO2 gas supply and routine contamination checks.
- Maintenance, cryopreservation, and cataloging of various cell culture lines.
- In collaboration with other team members, develop, update, and maintain accurate protocols for culture process and experiments.
- Perform routine and complex research laboratory procedures and techniques.
- Assist with inventory management, including stocking routine inventory items, obtaining quotes, inventory tracking and maintaining thorough electronic records of cell culture data.
- Attend required meetings and participate in team and professional development activities.
- Present results to internal and external research teams.
- Communicate effectively both written and orally and demonstrate a sense of timeliness.
The position length is expected to be one year.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Two to three years of job related experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, Computer Science, or another technical field (by the time of hire)
SKILLS
This job requires working knowledge of the principles and practices of scientific and related laboratory operations. Includes skill in data organization, management and evaluation; statistical analysis; project organization; and, use of advanced statistical and scientific computer applications.
