Job Title: Payroll Accountant Specialist
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented professional to join our team as a Payroll Accountant Specialist. The Payroll Accountant Specialist will primarily be responsible for managing all aspects of payroll processing and ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness in payroll-related activities. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of payroll processing systems and procedures, possess excellent analytical skills, and have an exceptional attention to detail.
Responsibilities:
1. Process payroll accurately and timely, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies.
2. Verify and review employee timesheets, ensuring accuracy and clarifying any discrepancies or issues.
3. Maintain employee payroll records in an organized and up-to-date manner, including tax deductions, benefits, and retirement contributions.
4. Prepare and distribute employee paychecks, ensuring proper tax withholding, deductions, and record keeping.
5. Collaborate with HR and other departments to ensure accurate and timely processing of new hires, terminations, and employee changes.
6. Conduct regular audits and reconciliations of payroll data to identify and correct discrepancies or errors.
7. Keep up-to-date on changes in payroll laws and regulations, ensuring compliance and implementing necessary adjustments to payroll processes.
8. Prepare and submit payroll tax filings and reports, including W-2s, quarterly reports, and year-end filings, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines.
9. Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll matters, resolving issues promptly and professionally.
10. Develop and implement effective payroll policies and procedures.
11. Various reconciliations and month-end closing tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
2. Solid understanding of payroll processing systems, software, and procedures.
3. Minimum of 3 years of experience in payroll accounting or a similar role.
4. Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll laws, regulations, and tax codes.
5. Proficient in using payroll software and other relevant tools (e.g., ADP, QuickBooks, Excel).
6. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
7. Strong organizational and time management abilities, with the capability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
9. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also demonstrating independence and self-motivation.
10. High ethical standards and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
