Job description

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner investigates the cause and manner of death for deaths that occur under violent, suspicious, or unexplained circumstances.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Cover administrative desk five days per week including one weekend day and holidays TBD. This consists of answering all telephones inquiries coming into the Administrative office, taking vital statistics and requesting documentation to resolve any discrepancies. Prepare release paperwork consisting of releasing case and cremation authorization, printing attestation and placing in chart. Release paperwork to funeral director through OCME portal system during normal business hours and assigned weekends and place funeral home acknowledgement form in chart for data entry
  2. Respond to inquiries on behalf of assigned medical examiner and refer to appropriate staff as needed.
  3. Enter information from Case Inventory and Tracking Sheet into EDRS for all cases examined by medical examiner on scheduled autopsy days. Prepare release paperwork and place in chart. When medical examiner certifies record, enter information into CMTS. Verify location of decedent identification from front of chart and give chart for identification at OCME to MLI's or place chart in ready to release rack for identifications at funeral home.
  4. Amend medical record as directed by medical examiner. Once certified, release record to clerk for registration. Update record in CMTS with cause and manner of death. Print Death Certificate Copy and place in chart. Send notice to funeral director that record has been amended.
  5. Scan and attach all Diagrams and tracking sheets for the day's cases into CMTS.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned.

This position is for the day shift, which will include one weekend day.
Qualifications:
First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.
Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in administrative work experience or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below:
Substitutions:
I. An Associate's or higher degree with a major in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required experience.
II. An Associate's or higher degree with a major other than in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
Educational substitutions will only be permitted for a maximum of two years of the required experience.
