Job Description
Broad Function and Purpose of Position:
The primary function of the Materials Manager is to accomplish the planning process to ensure that adequate supplies of materials and services are available to support the Marion production facility and to establish and monitor production schedules for the facility to meet customer requirements along with inventory targets. The Material Manager will supervise Production Planners, Purchasing Team, Receiving, and plant Logistics. The Material Manager will also manage the inventory control function to achieve the goal of on-time shipping, product availability, inventory control, and drive department efficiencies to maximize resources and streamline costs.
Qualifications
Specific Responsibilities:
- Strategic planning with department and sales managers and to ensure appropriate forecasting of planning and scheduling based on trends.
- Oversee production planners, schedule priorities, provide assistance for escalated issues, and general leadership.
- Oversee purchasing team to ensure adequate supplies of raw materials, packaging, and other supplies to ensure uninterrupted manufacturing while maintaining inventory targets.
- Oversee receiving and plant logistics to ensure optimum material flow and maximum productivity; maintain highest level of inventory control and accuracy.
- Act as a troubleshooter between manufacturing, quality control, purchasing and logistics to resolve discrepancies, determine priorities, and in general expedite the flow of materials based on production schedule requirements.
- Satisfy customer on-time shipping requirements with optimal inventory investment; maintain inventory controls and levels to conform to budgets and forecasts while optimizing customer service levels; perform physical inventories.
- Ensure timely turnover of materials and develop action plans to minimize obsolete material.
- Oversee workflow processes.
- Maintain spending and cost control measures in accordance with budgets and commitments agreed to with Director of Operations.
- Maintain safe and clean work environment in accordance with Sika Housekeeping policy.
- Perform other work and projects as required by the Vice President of Supply Chain.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Education: BS degree in Business Management or other related field.
- Years Experience: 5+ years experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, or distribution center environment. Direct experience with materials and inventory control.
Special Requirements/Competencies:
- Must have expert experience in enterprise resource planning and/or manufacturing resource planning systems.
- Must have working knowledge of inventory management in the capacity of planning and scheduling.
- Must have strong interpersonal skills, effective oral and written communication skills, and proficiency in computer applications.
- Must have knowledge of OSHA regulations and guidelines and ability to prepare and maintain required documentation.
- Independent worker, with strong organizational skills, who requires minimal supervision.
