AvCarb Material Solutions located in Lowell, MA and Cleveland, OH develops and manufactures engineered carbon-based products for electrochemical hydrogen and energy storage applications, including advanced gas diffusion layers (GDLs), molded graphite laminates, woven carbon fabrics and carbon felts. We are a growing company with an entrepreneurial spirit and a mission in decarbonization technologies looking to add a full-time General Manager to our team in support of significant expansion efforts.
Reporting directly to the Company’s CEO, the General Manager of our Ohio plant will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of plant operations to ensure the efficient production of high-quality products/services while maintaining a safe and compliant work environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills, exceptional problem-solving abilities, and a proven track record of driving operational excellence.
- Provide effective leadership and direction to all plant employees, ensuring a culture of safety, teamwork, respect and accountability.
- Build and develop a high-performance team, ensuring appropriate staffing levels and skill sets to meet production goals.
- Create and maintain a plant master operations schedule to permit maximum utilization while accounting for maintenance periods and manpower availability.
- Develop and implement strategies for continuous improvement of productivity and efficiency. Streamline workflows and material movement, reduce production time, and optimize equipment utilization.
- Develop and monitor KPIs and other metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement strategies as needed.
- In partnership with VP, Finance and CEO, develop and manage the plant budget. Drive strategies to control costs and achieve financial targets.
- Develop capital plans. Assemble compelling and credible capital expense project proposals in partnership with Materials Purchasing, Finance and Facilities and ensure timely and on budget execution of capital projects.
- Maintain a safe work environment, ensuring site follows all safety and environmental regulations, and build a safety focused culture.
- Ensure all compliance needs are met, including supporting and enforcing quality system and regulatory policies, work instructions, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelors in an Engineering or Operations Management related field
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in a combination of production, planning, quality or operations-oriented activities required.
- 5+ years direct manufacturing plant management experience.
- Experience with implementation of excellence tools, such as Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, etc.
- Proficiency with an ERP system, such as SAP or Oracle. Epicor is preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint and Excel
- Ability to create a team environment by motivating and encouraging positive morale and teamwork, leading by example.
- Strong understanding of Continuous Improvement principles and application.

- Demonstrated leadership, project management, and problem-solving skills in a total quality team environment with a bias for action.
- Ability to manage and develop highly effective teams.
- Strong working knowledge of data analysis and operational performance metrics
- Eagerness to engage with teams and staff at all levels to drive performance and achievement of goals.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Knowledgeable in facility infrastructure and process equipment.
- Experience developing business cases using benefit cost analysis to support equipment investment strategy.
