Job Description
The Business Development Manager (BDM) identifies growth opportunities for specific, highly engineered polymers, and customer targets aligned with those opportunities. Ultimately, the BDM is responsible for closing new profitable business in assigned products, by focusing on target markets, building customer connections, selling Formerra’s value, driving new specifications, and managing projects start to finish. Target customer roles include R&D, Engineering, Marketing, Executive Leadership and Sourcing.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Achieve and maintain technical expertise for the assigned products/chemistries and serve as internal and external consultant for those products.
- Partner with marketing to identify target markets, customers, and applications based on the inherent attributes of the assigned products. Build strategy for prioritizing opportunities, assigning them to the ideal sales channel, and tracking progress.
- Determine sales pipeline characteristics required to achieve success against Business Development goals, and design and execute plans to meet or exceed those goals. Create and maintain CRM data and sales statistics as required.
- Initiate and develop new customer relationships, identify opportunities for the assigned products, drive material specifications, and ultimately close new, profitable sales.
- For customers managed by the commercial team, ensure the commercial team is trained on the assigned products/chemistries and the questioning strategies for uncovering associated opportunities. Also, partner with commercial leadership to ensure efforts are being prioritized properly.
- May be required to serve as a product manager for a select few suppliers. Primary duties include serving as main liaison between supplier and Formerra, ensuring strategic and functional team alignment, and driving profitable growth for both parties.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with BU partners in product management, sales, pricing, customer service, planning, logistics, and other functions.
- Other projects/duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Strong commercial skills including prospecting and cold calling, Customer Centric Selling (CCS), and translating customer needs into solutions.
- A continuous improvement mindset and approach to selling.
- Broad knowledge of materials and processing techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to influence effectively at the peer level as well as management levels across a global organization.
- Professional presence, including excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- Self-motivated with strong organizational skills
- Strong computer skills, proficiency with MS Word, Excel, SAP, and Salesforce experience preferred.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree or commensurate experience.
- 10+ years of experience in Business Development, with proven track record of engaging OEM-level contacts and driving Business Development projects with highly engineered thermoplastics.
Physical Requirements & Work Setting
- Remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time.
- Operate computer and other office equipment regularly.
- Frequent communication, both verbal and written
- Typical work is in an office environment where the noise level is low to moderate.
- Valid US driver’s license and good driving record required,
- Position may require up to 50% travel,
