Educational and Experience Requirement:Associate degree or sixty college hours required. Library experience would be helpful.
Nature & Purpose of Position:Metadata entry for University Archives projects that have been digitized by the SHSU Digital Initiatives Department using Dublin CORE metadata schema. Provides support to the University Archivist and University Archives staff by assisting in reference services for the department.
Primary Responsibilities:Creates and describes digital objects/collections for ContentDM (Digital Management Collection Software). Assists with creating finding aids of archival materials according to archival best practices and metadata standards and uploads these finding aids to ArchiveSpace database. Works with the University Archivist to sort, organize and provide access to collections located in University Archives. Assists with students, faculty, staff, and other library patrons in locating and interpreting library resources in the University Archives. Enforces the policies and procedures of SHSU, Newton Gresham Library, and the University Archives. Performs other duties as assigned
Other Specifications:Must have computer skills and an ability to learn new programs; must be detailed-oriented. A willingness to work with others as some projects may be large-scale with lengthy duration. Must be able to prioritize, exercise initiative, use good judgement, and work independently. Normally will be involved in routine contacts with faculty, staff, students, and other patrons and some important contacts with other universities. Working conditions are normally in a semi-private or general working area of the library with little or no disagreeable conditions. Ability to operate general office machines and familiarity with Windows type computer applications is needed. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pound boxes; load and push book trucks; and shelve books.
Work schedules are generally Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. However, work schedules may vary according to library needs which include evening work and weekends. This position is in a controlled environment where temperatures and humidity remain constant for the preservation of the archival collection. The workspace is an open concept where the individual will be in proximity with other University Archive staff, and the archival collections. This position may work with materials that contain dust and mold.
Up to 20% of this position, over the fiscal year during off-peak periods, may be performed remotely as determined by the supervisor.
