Under the general direction and oversight of the Library Director, the Library Assistant's primary role in the library is to staff the front desk and assist librarians with ongoing projects and programs. This position is for 30-40 hours per week.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities

- Staffing the front desk and helping patrons locate materials
- Checking materials in and out, creating library card accounts, and processing new materials using the library's circulation system (Apollo)
- Assisting patrons with database searches
- Answering reference and basic directional questions
- Assisting patrons with Windows-based computers
- Transferring materials; which may weigh up to 30 pounds, to and from book bins and shelves
- Shelving books and shelf-reading the collection
- Maintaining equipment (filling paper trays in the copiers & printers; reporting any malfunctions)
- Assisting with library projects when needed
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgment, initiative, and resourcefulness when dealing with fellow staff members, professional contacts, other administrators, and the public.
- Ability to communicate effectively and present ideas orally and in writing.
- Ability to be effective under changing work priorities and with frequent interruptions.
- Proficiency with a variety of software programs related to library operations: integrated library systems, email and calendaring applications, and Google Suite.
Tools and Equipment Used
- Office equipment, such as computers, copiers, printers, telephones, laminators, book returns, audio-visual equipment systems, and security control panels.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual (Spanish) is highly preferred
