General Summary:
Under general supervision, assist the school administration to maintain an orderly school environment by monitoring the school plant, Parking Lots and grounds on a routine basis. Monitors and reports all questionable situations to the school administrators for action or further investigation.
Essential Functions:
  • Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One.
  • Effectively interacts, communicates and collaborates with all stakeholders.
  • Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive working and learning environment.
  • Monitors school plant (restrooms, halls, etc.), Parking Lots, and grounds on a routine schedule.
  • Monitors students for authorized passes to allow departure and arrivals during school hours.
  • Limits access to campus during times specified by school administration.
  • Communicates any suspicious or unusual activity to building administrators.
  • Monitors and makes school officials aware of any irregularities such as fire hazards, improper student parking, unauthorized visitors, students in unauthorized areas, or any other activity which is a violation of school rules and procedures.
  • Monitors visitors and directs visitors to various parts of the campus.
  • May perform maintenance duties such as mowing grass in the Parking Lot areas, sweeping gate areas, etc.
  • Directs deliveries to appropriate unloading areas.
  • Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Provides for safe storage and proper use of all materials, tools, and equipment needed for daily activities.
  • Effectively uses personal technology and communication devices as appropriate.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education/Work Experience:
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Post secondary education desired
  • Training and/or experience in security and law enforcement procedures desired
  • Valid South Carolina driver's license.

Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of the policies, procedures and activities of the school district that pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, and operations. Knowledge of local and state ordinances concerning lawbreakers. Knowledge of the records and reports that must be prepared and maintained. Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy in exercising duties. Ability to anticipate work to be completed and complete work without the need for direct supervision. Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student records and information. Ability to demonstrate appropriate utilization of technology and communication devices in the performance of daily activities. Ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation and utilization of equipment, materials and tools used in daily activities. Ability to interact and communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, administrators, colleagues and all other stakeholders involved in the activities of the job.
Working Conditions:
Duties are performed both indoors and outdoors with exposure to discomforting environmental conditions such as heat, cold, humidity, noise, dusts, and wetness. Heavy physical exertion is occasionally required such as standing and walking for extensive periods of time, occasionally running for several hundred yards in response to emergency situations, climbing stairways and other inclines, and lifting and moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasional local travel is required; no overnight travel required.
Responsibility:
Supervision of students in all school settings. No budgetary responsibility.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the school board's policy on evaluation of support personnel.
