Summary: The IT Systems Monitoring Specialist plays a vital role in the assurance of service stability for Stride. Stride is hiring a Systems Monitoring Specialist to monitor the day-to-day operation of a large-scale computing infrastructure involving 300+ applications in the evening hours and overnight (7pm-7am ET Fri, Sat, Sun, Wed team meeting). This role is responsible for responding to monitoring alarms during their shift and taking appropriate actions including documentation of your actions and escalating to other support teams and vendors. Initiate, maintain, and manage major incident meetings virtually. Assist in triage and incident management with collection and analysis of performance metrics. Assist in resolving incidents as quickly as possible with other support teams when needed.

  • Monitor day to day operation of large-scale computing infrastructure involving 300+ applications.
  • Take appropriate actions including logging alert, create service ticket and notify stakeholders.
  • Initiate and manage major incident meetings virtually (e.g., Zoom, MS Teams).
  • Assist in triage and incident management with collection and analysis of performance metrics.
  • Escalate to Incident Manager and the designated support teams to resolve incidents when needed.
  • Be a key member of the team responsible for the monitoring enterprise systems for IT Operations.
  • Review alert data, make recommendations for improving quality of alerts (e.g., adjusting thresholds), and working with engineers to implement those new thresholds.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.
Required Qualifications:
  • Two (2) years' experience using Enterprise Systems Monitoring tools - such as New Relic, CloudWatch etc.
  • Intermediate understanding of IT infrastructure and operations.
  • Ability to identify and relay information and symptoms detected by monitoring tools in English.
  • Ability to read and follow detailed instructions or procedures without supervision to triage incidents.
  • Strong sense of ownership and urgency when escalating active alerts. Exhibits confidence when escalating to ensure alerts are responded to in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing, and over the telephone in English.
  • Ability to work outside regular business hours on an exceptional basis.
  • Ability to clear a required background check.

Preferred Certificates and Licenses: ITIL (Information Technology Information Library) Foundation Certification; AWS (Amazon Web Services) Cloud Certification(s), New Relic Full Stack Observability or Fundamentals certification.
OTHER PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience with the ITIL Incident Management process and procedures.
  • Familiarity with application monitoring.
  • A passion for analysis and documentation.
