Job Description
Library Systems & Services is seeking a responsible full-time IT Specialist to provide customer-focused technical support ensuring total functionality of IT equipment utilized by library staff and patrons in Moreno Valley, CA. The IT Specialist also performs a variety of moderately complex technical and paraprofessional duties at the library service desk at the Moreno Valley Public Library. Reporting to the Library Director, the IT Specialist provides support to library management, employees and patrons. IT Specialist responsibilities include ensuring the quality and accuracy of their work in order to maintain IT systems, effective communication of technical concepts and requirements in a manner appropriate to given audiences, and providing staff training on new systems and software
The ideal candidate should have excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to organize their work using tools, like MS Excel and office equipment. This position is physically located at the Main Library, but requires travel to the library branches. If you also have previous experience in tech support and familiarity within our industry, we’d like to meet you. Ultimately, a successful IT Specialist should ensure the efficient and smooth day-to-day operation of our workstations.
The city of Moreno Valley (population over 213,000) is a progressive and diverse city with a bright future. Strategically located in the western region of Riverside County, Moreno Valley is about an hour’s drive east of Los Angeles, west of Palm Springs, and north of San Diego. While maintaining its friendly small-town attitude, the 50-square-mile community boasts big-city amenities, including contemporary retail destinations and neighborhood shopping centers. LS&S operates the Main Library and its two branches, Moreno Valley Mall Library and Iris Plaza Library.
Responsibilities
An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.
- Provide entry-level IT support for library staff at multiple sites
- Identify, troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network related problems encountered by end-users
- Provide basic networking support
- Interact with vendors as necessary to support and maintain the IT environment
- Operate and maintain Maker/STEAM/3D printing equipment
- Use established tracking systems to log requests; monitor progress, track problem resolution identify patterns of failure, research bug fixes and implement solutions
- Effectively communicate with director, manager, staff, and end users regarding unresolved problems
- Provides excellent customer service
- Assists patrons with locating, borrowing, and returning materials; using computers or other equipment; or explaining procedures (checking out, logging onto the Internet, making copies, etc.)
- Accepts and processes fines, fees, or other payments.
- Shelves library materials.
- Provides information regarding programs, events, conference rooms, etc.
- Know and understand the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library. In addition to these freedoms, support client discretion of materials available at your local library(ies)
- Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.
- Occasionally lift, push/pull, hold/carry of items weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds such as CPUs, printers, files, books, and other materials.
Requirements
An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.
- High School diploma or equivalent, Associates degree in computer technology or a certificate reflecting training in the field preferred.
- Able to communicate with diverse populations, English/Spanish bilingual a plus.
- Possess good written and oral communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of computer networking, hardware and software systems.
- Basic knowledge of Windows Administration, to include GPO.
- General knowledge of computer troubleshooting.
- Ability to provide instruction in basic computer use-hardware and software.
- General knowledge of networking principles, Windows back-up, and imaging procedures.
- Excellent customer service skills
- Familiarity with makerspaces and related technologies a plus
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include a combination of days, evenings and weekends

- Starting Pay Rate: $18.00 - $18.30 per hour
