Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) Human Resources (HR) Generalists are key members of our Corporate HR team whose mission is to partner with and serve our employee-owners by offering innovative solutions, building trusting partnerships, and providing outstanding customer service. Our HR Generalists are critical to our success as they provide professional guidance to multiple employees across the country through effective partnership and collaboration with their HR Administrative partners in all functional HR areas. - Provides professional HR guidance to employees across multiple states, including benefits and compensation administration, employee relations support, performance management, training support, policy interpretation and compliance assistance with applicable local, state, and federal employment laws.
- Communicates regularly with employees, location based HR Administrators, and management regarding various policies, procedures, laws, standards, and government regulations.
- Partners with HR Administrators, Corporate HR Team, and managers to assist with working through problems and finding constructive resolutions and recommendations for various Human Resources matters.
- With guidance from Senior HR Staff and HR Director, promptly responds to employee relations issues such as employee complaints, harassment, discrimination and retaliation allegations, and civil rights complaints.
- Regularly uses HR Information System to perform employee record maintenance activities, including new hires, employee and organizational changes, performance reviews, and terminations.
- Actively participates and collaborates as a member of the vibrant Corporate HR team.
- Develops and presents on relevant HR topics and provides training as needed.
- Responds to unemployment claims as needed.
- May assist with special projects as assigned.
- Other duties as required.
HR Generalist Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management (or related field) or equivalent experience.
- Two to four years relevant HR experience, which includes supporting various HR functions in a generalist or business partner capacity or position with similar scope of responsibility.
- Solid networking and research abilities.
- Must be customer service focused and have excellent time management and project management skills.
- Must be proactive and well organized and have ability to prioritize work.
- Requires ability to:
- communicate exceptionally well (both verbal and written),
- work collaboratively with team members, and on an individual basis with minimal supervision,
- build relationships and offer solutions through creativity and flexibility,
- research and analyze various types of data and information,
- objectively coach employees and management through complex, difficult, and emotional issues,
- make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues, by using judgment that is consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulation, or government law,
- advise management on compliance issues,
- remain flexible, pivot, and adapt in the face of setbacks or changes while maintaining a strong sense of priority and purpose,
- maintain employee files and keep electronic records up to date,
- grow and expand your knowledge base and apply new skills and information in response to real-time issues and tasks.
- Intermediate skill level in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, OneNote, and Outlook.
- Experience with and ability to effectively work in HR Information Systems.
- Experience with and ability to effectively develop and deliver quality presentations and trainings to small and large groups.
HR Generalist Preferences:
- SHRM and/or HRCI certification e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, or other related Certification.
- Experience working for government contractor(s).
- Knowledge of/experience with UKG (UltiPro), HRIS software.
