Job description

Job Posting Dates: December 12, 2023 - January 16+, 2024
Reports To: Human Resources Director
FLSA Status: Exempt
Summary
The National Children's Advocacy Center (NCAC) is looking for an HR professional to join our growing team. Seeking more meaning in your work? How about a job where you can be proud to know you are using your HR skills to help make the world a better place? In this role, you will support 65 dedicated, caring colleagues who are on a mission To Champion and Strengthen the Global Response to Child Abuse.
About the Role
In this new role, you will provide high quality services to attract, develop, and retain top staff with an emphasis on the following: employee relations and engagement; recruitment and onboarding; performance management; compliance and policy administration; and fostering a supportive, values-based workplace using DEI and HR best practices. This is a position for an experienced HR professional and business partner who is prepared to lead and implement both strategic and administrative HR management responsibilities. We will give close attention to candidates with cover letters that highlight their experience developing inclusive and supportive supervisors and teams.
A typical day may include:
  • Sharing a resource you developed to help managers recruit a successful candidate.
  • Mediating a conversation with colleagues who are having an interpersonal challenge.
  • Participating in a DEI Committee meeting to help foster a more inclusive workforce.
  • Finding ways to improve usage of technology to streamline HR services.
  • Collaborating with the leadership team on the development of an employee policy.
  • Analyzing data or doing research for a project that supports the Strategic Plan.
  • Providing advice and support to a supervisor who is having a performance issue.
  • Recordkeeping, filing, and similar routine tasks for internal department operations.
  • Staying flexible to pivot to new issues because change is probably the only typical part of a day in HR!

You will thrive in this job if you:
  • Are a self-starter and require little oversight to complete HR tasks
  • Love to build relationships and excel at facilitating complex conversations
  • Have a strong skill set in fostering DEI-informed workplaces
  • Enjoy using your tech-savvy, innovative HR skills to optimize the limited resources of a nonprofit organization
  • Know how to strategically challenge the status quo
  • Have patience and a positive attitude with ability to advocate and influence at all levels
  • Excel at juggling priorities, staying organized, and paying attention to details

We are looking for a team member who is aligned with NCAC's Organizational Values:
  • We are passionate about making the world a better place.
  • We thrive by learning, collaborating, and celebrating.
  • We welcome innovative ideas and new perspectives.
  • We help each other succeed.

Education and Experience Requirements
  • Must have a bachelor's degree with coursework in HR management or an equivalent combination of formal training and/or experience.
  • Strongly prefer HR certification or a master's degree in HR management or a related field.
  • Must have experience working in a professional HR position requiring advanced knowledge of labor laws.
  • Strongly prefer at least 5 years of experience implementing best practices in employee relations, supervisor development, and/or DEI initiatives for professionals in an office environment.
  • Strongly prefer experience with HR management software and related technology (e.g. applicant tracking systems, HRIS, MS Teams, etc.)
  • Significant experience developing exceptional communication, interpersonal, decision-making, and diplomacy skills.
  • Excellent track record for building trust and productive relationships while maintaining impartiality and confidentiality.
Location and Work Schedule
This position will work primarily on-site at our Huntsville, AL office and support on-site and remote staff. Our small HR team has a hybrid working environment and, after a few months of becoming established in this role, you may have the option to work approximately one day a week from your home office. Typical hours are 8:30 to 5:00 with some flexibility to adjust start/end times.
