Form of workA private family primarily based in Great Neck, NY (Long Island) is seeking a high-level live-out head of housekeeping to join their team. This person will report to the estate manager and will work directly with the services manager, property manager, and lady of the home carrying out directives across all family residences. The position will most often allow for two consecutive days off per week but will require flexibility for some nights, weekends, and holidays. This role is live-out, and will be open to candidates both in NYC and in Long Island, as there are residences in both those areas within the scope of the role.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, oversight of the cleanliness and organization of the family residence, oversight of staff with 5-7 full-time housekeepers, implementation and upholding of household standards of service at all residences, training of new hires and ensuring standards are met and understood, assisting with scheduling logistics of housekeepers, overseeing and maintaining monthly inventories of all linens, china, silver, and stemware in all residences, tracking of household supplies and requesting purchase/replenishment of them as needed, maintaining pars for all residences, oversight of laundry operations (including maintaining cleaning protocols, and oversight of equipment), tracking/logging of all dry cleaning and reconciling the monthly bill, and coordinating with the services manager and chef on daily operations and meal service as well as special events at all residences. Other more administrative duties could include expense tracking and credit card reconciliation, maintaining of spreadsheets for inventory and supplies, and interacting with vendors as needed.
The candidate should have several years of experience working in a formal, fully staffed home (luxury hotel background a plus), a keen aesthetic sense and familiarity with museum quality furnishings (and the care of them), superior communication skills with excellent competency in English (both written and spoken), and confidence with Office Suite- Outlook, Word, Excel as well as smart phone technology. The ideal person in this role is fully flexible for night, weekend, and holiday availability, and is a hands on team-player with a "no job too small" attitude.
