GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for assisting in the operations of the Real Time
Crime Center and is responsible for viewing available real-time surveillance video feeds to track and
report on individuals involved in suspected criminal activity. This position also assists with the
preservation of video evidence for the Police Department’s operations. Reports to a Police Sergeant.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs technical work utilizing the Real Time Crime Center video systems to view current activity,
locate and track suspected criminal activities, and relay information to responding units. Proactively
monitors camera systems for criminal activity and uses the police radio to coordinate a response with
patrol units and the Department’s emergency operations call center. Monitors systems for alerts
regarding criminal activity; searches systems for historical data; documents activity and response steps
for reporting and record retention purposes.
Responsible for researching recorded video footage to provide assistance to officers and detectives with
case review and resolution; documents patterns of criminal and accident activity for investigating
officers; reviews footage for evidence and transfers materials to appropriate platforms when
applicable.
Assists with training of staff on Real Time Crime Center platforms and systems. May assist with the
preparation and release of video material for department use and court case presentations, to include
video dubbing, editing, standards conversion, pre-processing, compression and quality testing.
Prepares reports to document results to utilize in court testimony; may testify in court as necessary.
Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
Technology – General knowledge of audio/visual surveillance systems, automated intelligence
software that captures, retains, quantifies, and evaluates video data for expedited research and

tracking capabilities (ex. Flock), and body camera systems. Knowledge of modern methods,
concepts, practices, and principles related to video production and editing techniques. .
Law Enforcement – General knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents,
government regulations, and the democratic political process.
Customer Service — Considerable knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer
service. This includes setting and meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of
customer satisfaction.

organizations and vendors.

situations and then to research information to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative
solutions, conclusions or approaches to the situation.
REQUIRED ABILITIES
Communication – Ability to effectively communicate ideas, to include the preparation of reports
and logs. Ability to listen and understand information and ideas being presented verbally and in
writing. Ability to handle a variety of customer service issues with tact and diplomacy and in a
confidential manner.
Time Management - Ability to establish and implement effective administrative programs and
procedures. Ability to plan and organize daily work routine. Establishes priorities for the
completion of work in accordance with sound time-management methodology.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Requires an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Computer Science, Information Technology,
Forensic Science or a closely related field and 2-4 years of directly related law enforcement or
investigation experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a comprehensive background investigation to include a local, state and federal criminal
history check; sex offender registry and credit check.
Requires satisfactory results from a medical evaluation and pre-employment substance abuse testing
and is subject to random alcohol and controlled substance testing.
A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work.
Some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (15-25
pounds).
Tasks may involve extended periods of time at keyboard or work station.
