THE OPPORTUNITY

The Director of Developmentis a central member of Community Vision’s Development Team and will be engaged in all aspects of fundraising and fund development. Reporting to the Vice President of External Relations, this position serves as one of the primary strategists in developing and implementing our national and regional fundraising plans and designing support structures for local donor engagement and fundraising efforts.

The Director of Developmentwill assume a leadership role to design, articulate, and implement a comprehensive multi-year fundraising strategy to advance the mission of Community Vision. The Director will work closely with the President, Vice President of External Relations, and the executive leadership team to set fundraising goals, implement annual fundraising strategies, and participate in the overall work of the External Relations / Development team, including managing 1-3 staff members. The Director will have their own fundraising targets and will increase and diversify philanthropic revenue. Current annual fundraising for the organization is $3M-$5M. The Director will join a collegial team of experienced, committed, and mission-driven Development professionals. Occasional domestic travel is required.


WHAT YOU WILL DO

Fund Development

  • Collaborate with the Vice President of External Relations and the development team to develop and implement annual and multi-year fundraising plans.
  • Develop, implement, and support strategies that will offer sustainable short, intermediate, and long-term growth in individual, institutional government and corporate support.
  • Cultivates, solicits, and stewards a portfolio of qualified prospects in the $25,000 - $1Mgiving range.
  • Ensure development and submission of high-quality grant applications, funder and investor reports, and regular impact reports.
  • Direct research initiatives to identify and cultivate new donors/supporters, including individuals, foundations, and corporations.
  • Research new funding ideas and present proposals to the Vice President and Executive Team.
  • Manage fundraising events, including oversight of the sponsorship solicitation and logistical planning.
  • In coordination with the President and executive team, identify, cultivate, and solicit institutional and corporate support at national, regional, and local levels.

Administration

  • Maintain statistical and research data for all funding sources.
  • Work with VP of External Relations to develop annual regional income and expense budgets for development projects and activities. Analyze and report on variances between actual and budgeted income and expense amounts.
  • Oversee donor marketing and communications programs to ensure key goals and objectives are met, increasing awareness, elevating our brand and donor stewardship.
  • Work closely with the development staff and report on all regional/corporate site development projects, newsletters, funding, and related items. Provide reports monthly or as directed by the Vice President on fundraising activities, major gifts, grants and special events, public relations, and other funding efforts.
  • Ensure accurate records of all contacts are maintained in the SalesForce CRM system. Establish and maintain correspondence records. Oversee regional development correspondence to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Track and report on national, state and regional development trends.
  • Stay abreast of philanthropic, economic, and social trends related to fundraising and CDFI industry initiatives.
  • Coordinates staff providing administrative and technical support for Annual Event
  • Manages corporate and individual sponsorship solicitations for Annual Event and event ticket sales

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Ideal qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience in related fields required.
  • 5+ years relevant experience working in fund development, ideally in a nonprofit
  • Demonstrated track record of securing multi-year support in excess of $500,000 commitments
  • Experience/interest in CDFIs, impact investing, and community/economic development
  • Strong written and communication skills
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Ability to represent the organization at public events
  • Strong interpersonal relationship-building and network development skills
  • Experience coordinating or supporting events
  • Comfortable working in a database and experience working in several different technical platforms
  • Ability to work in a team environment, contributing ideas and supporting colleagues
  • Additional training in development and non-profit management preferred
  • Expert attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent organizational skills

MORE ABOUT THE POSITION

TheDirector of Development is a full-time, exempt position. This position reports to the VP, External Relations. The salary for this position is between $152,000 - $169,275 annually, depending on experience.

Benefits include: 100% health insurance premium coverage for employees and a contribution towards dependent coverage, dental insurance, long-term disability and life insurance, transportation and cell phone subsidies, employer contributions towards retirement savings, three weeks’ vacation, and a commitment to work/life balance. Occasional evenings and out of area travel may be necessary. The position involves regular computer and telephone use plus some minimal lifting. The position can be based at either of Community Vision’s offices in San Francisco or Oakland. All staff are working remotely until further notice.
