Employee-owned Kitchell seeks an experienced and dedicated Business Development Director to join our Southern California region in the greater Los Angeles / Orange County area and build a long-term career at one of the most innovative and growth-oriented building companies in the United States.
Overview
Manages the early identification and qualification of new business opportunities in the Construction Industry and develops new project opportunities. Searches out, identifies and establishes contact with targeted leads for new business as well as enhances existing client relationships. Develops client and project related information to allow strategy formulation for a successful Business Development, marketing and winning approach. Coordinates follow-up and manages relationships with individuals and clients in the Construction Industry and with business contacts in pursuing and maintaining specific project opportunities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with regional leadership in developing and executing the annual regional Business Development and marketing plan, including the determination of target markets, strategies to penetrate said markets, creation of sales objectives and identification of tasks necessary to achieve the region's sales goals and objectives.
- Identification of new clients and enhancing existing client relationships.
- Develops lead lists for target markets and participate in developing strategy and capturing new work with identified markets/industries.
- Researches and qualifies new business leads and initiates contact with potential clients and elicits information on owner/user, project, selection process and schedule, decision making, etc.
- Facilitates and documents the development of prepositioning plans and efforts, capture plans, road map / pipeline documents, and win theme's that drive relationships and pursuits forward and lead to capturing new work.
- Assists operations and marketing in pursuit and responses to requests for qualifications / proposals efforts, preparation of proposals, and interview efforts/preparation.
- Works closely with regional leadership and marketing to promote and elevate Kitchell brand, in-person and online on all social media platforms.
- Attends appropriate pre-proposal meetings/job walks/site visits, community/civic organization events, industry events, conferences, and volunteer events representing Kitchell's branding, Business Development and marketing efforts.
- Creates and maintains contact with clients and strategic industry partners such as architects, engineers, contractors and others who can assist in pursuit of new work.
- Maintains knowledge of all aspects of construction industry, markets and current trends.
- Executes additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in business administration, marketing or related field is highly preferred.
- Minimum 10 years related work experience in Business Development or related field required, preferably in the construction management, architecture, engineering, and construction industry or related field.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to identify prospects and develop strategies for targeted opportunities.
- Must have extraordinary networking, presentation, oral and written communication skills.
- Effective computer skills, including proficient use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook software required, and Deltek Vision database management software preferred.
- Ability to demonstrate the competencies of achieving results, teamwork and influence.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability initiate, build and manage effective interpersonal relationships.
- Commitment to the values of Kitchell with attention to honesty and integrity, quality of work, customer satisfaction and flexibility.
- In-depth understanding of the public procurement and request for qualifications / proposals process and preferably also an understanding of staff augmentation contracts.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a general office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the position is moderately active and the employee is required to regularly sit, talk, or hear and use hands to finger, feel and handle; frequently stand, walk and reach with hands and arms; occasionally climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must frequently lift and or move 5 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 20 pounds.
Travel Requirements
Frequent travel locally as well as regionally.
