Job Description
The Community Engagement Coordinator will serve as a critical point of connection between the Patrick M. Magoon Institute for Healthy Communities and Chicago neighborhoods with a focus in Belmont Cragin, Hermosa and surrounding communities. These neighborhoods are selected based on infant, child and adolescent health data and Lurie Children's potential ability to address the public health needs identified by those living there. The Community Engagement Coordinator will ensure that our key neighborhood-level partnerships are as effective and impactful as possible. This position will coordinate and support neighborhood-level initiatives, represent Lurie Children's in various community events, meetings and coalitions, help connect Lurie Children's clinical and public health experts with community partners, and identify Community Engagement opportunities for employee/physician volunteers to strengthen partnerships and improve child and adolescent health. Assists Magoon Institute leadership and support staff with implementation and evaluation of the Magoon Institute strategic plan related to Community Engagement, ensuring alignment with the Community Health Implementation Strategy and organizational goals and mission. Schedule is variable, including nights and weekends to accommodate community events. Flexible, hybrid schedule available with a blend of in office, at home and in the community (after first 90 days).
Department Description: The Patrick M. Magoon Institute for Healthy Communities serves as the hub for all community-focused initiatives at Lurie Children's. The Magoon Institute is responsible for aligning the Medical Center's clinical, research, education and advocacy expertise with Community Engagement, while supporting people, programs and partnerships that advance community health. This team provides engagement opportunities for employees, physicians and trainees and leads the development and execution of Lurie Children's Community Health Needs Assessment and Implementation Strategy. The Magoon Institute partners with clinical, public health and community outreach leaders and experts across the Medical Center to work towards the goal of advancing health equity and racial justice, and improving health and wellness for children, adolescents and their families across Chicago.

Essential Job Functions:

• Serves as day-to-day liaison for Lurie Children's with community partners, residents and other stakeholders in Belmont Cragin, Hermosa and other Chicago neighborhoods.
• Establishes and maintains strong relationships in neighborhoods of focus with community leaders, government leaders, neighborhood organizations, schools, libraries, parks, businesses, social services agencies, faith leaders, residents and other stakeholders.
• Supports and helps coordinate collaborative efforts to develop, implement and monitor new and current community health place-based initiatives at the neighborhood-level, including assisting with project planning and supporting evaluation. Examples of current initiatives include the Mobile Health Program, the Neighborhood-based Initiative, the Community Volunteer Corp and the All Hands Health Network, among others.
• Represents Lurie Children's on community-based coalitions, city-wide collaboratives and community partner initiatives. This includes various meetings and community events with these individuals and organizations, including some evenings and weekends.
• Prepares brief written status and summary reports on a regular basis pertaining to the progress, outcomes and impact of neighborhood-based initiatives, activities, engagement, partnerships and project meetings and updates and maintains systems for tracking these efforts.
• Provides project coordination and support on various community health efforts and related projects that align with advancing Community Engagement.
• Identifies and assists with opportunities to engage Lurie Children's leaders, employees, physicians and trainees in community health efforts and neighborhood activities.

Qualifications/Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Bachelor's degree required. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered in lieu of the degree when the experience has been directly related to the duties of the job.
• Fluent in Spanish (verbal and written) required); community knowledge and established partnerships within Belmont Cragin, Hermosa and surrounding areas highly preferred.
• Minimum three years of experience in community outreach, community organizing, community health, public health or related field required; experience with project coordination and community programming preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate with individuals from different backgrounds and disciplines.
• Good organizational skills required. Experience coordinating projects with ability to establish priorities preferred.
• Flexibility to work on evenings and weekends; travel throughout Chicago required with potential for county-wide travel.
• Demonstrated ability to respond promptly to and coordinate a variety of requests and needs often on short notice.
• Ability to take initiative and work independently.
