Community Engagement Coordinator

ReGeneration Schools, founded in 2016, is a nationally ranked charter program with seven charter schools located in Illinois and Ohio. ReGeneration serves over 1800 students of whom 99% are minority and 86% are low income. U.S. News and World Report’s 2021 School Ranking listed all ReGeneration elementary schools among the top ten charter elementary schools in Illinois. ReGeneration expanded to Ohio in 2019, opening its Bond Hill campus in 2019. ReGeneration is expanding in Ohio adding two more campuses effective July 2023.

We are seeking aCommunity Engagement Coordinatorwho will develop and maintain relationships with our students and their families, our neighborhood partners, and our broader school communities.

• Community outreach work includes supporting student recruitment and enrollment strategies, representing ReGeneration Schools at community events, pre-schools, churches, and neighborhood fairs. The Community Coordinator is responsible for, spear- heading the community outreach activities to connect with students and families and broaden the recognition of our network .
• Student attendance work will include monitoring attendance and assisting with various attendance procedures, communicating with parents and guardians regarding attendance problems and related issues, and providing information regarding school or District programs and procedures. The Community Coordinator is a highly trained support staff member assigned to address issues related to removing barriers to student attendance. The staff member will meet with administration, students, and families to ensure that barriers to attendance are reduced or removed and students can access their education. The successful person will build rapport and trust with families and be an important liaison to a network of community support services.

Qualifications:

• 1-3 years of previous office management/administrative experience in a public or charter school.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
• Strong organizational skills
• Proven ability to network with families and community groups.
• Demonstrated creativity and compassion in working with under-resourced communities.
• Experience with Aspen and Power School (Preferred)
• Proficiency with Google Apps, MS Word, Excel and databases (REQUIRED)
• Unapologetic belief that low income students can and will graduate from college
• Strong work ethic and commitment to getting the job done
• Flexible to changing priorities and conditions
• Excellent time and task management
• Availability to work select evenings and weekends for student recruitment and Community Engagement events

Responsibilities:

Student Attendance and Support

• Monitor attendance and assists with various attendance procedures including maintaining accurate records of student attendance, tardiness, truancy, suspension and discipline.
• Communicate with students and parents regarding attendance and related issues; make and receive phone calls and notes regarding student attendance concerns and problems; make home visits as needed. Support parents and guardians in problem solving the issues that may be interfering with a student’s consistent attendance.
• Provide student attendance information to staff, parents, and authorities as requested; explain and interpret policies and regulations regarding school attendance.
• Prepare correspondence pertaining to student attendance and records as appropriate.
• Refer serious attendance problems according to established procedures; assist in identifying and resolving problems of students with frequent absenteeism.
• Maintain a network of social service agencies and other resources for family referral.
• Prepare and maintain records and reports related to student attendance.
• Operate computers and peripheral equipment to enter, revise, and update information.
• Identify community needs through neighborhood canvassing and meetings.
• Engage community volunteers for opportunities to increase community awareness of ReGeneration Schools, and increase in-kind donations of time and supplies.

Student Recruitment and Enrollment

• Work in conjunction with Network Special Projects Coordinator on implementing the school’s student recruitment strategy.
• Canvass neighborhood businesses, churches, parks, daycares, social service agencies and other community spaces to provide information and recruit families.
• Develop relationships with families, community partners, and civic leaders to promote the ReGeneration Schools brand.
• Staff student open houses, recruitment fairs, community events, and other outreach activities.
• Collect attendance numbers and contact information from Open Houses.
• Monitor and resort student application numbers.
